Never have I ever given a place five stars all the way—but Brisket and Rice deserves it. I’m the kind of reviewer who needs to try a place two to three times before making a review.
The first time I went to Brisket and Rice was because I heard all the rave about it, and rightfully so—it deserves every bit of it. I ordered almost everything: the brisket and fried rice, half a pound of house sausage, the “coleslaw,” the mac & cheese, and the baked potato salad.
First, I want to say that the service is fast. The longest I waited both times was about 10 minutes, even though it was packed.
Now, let’s get into the food. The brisket and fried rice was delicious. Their fried rice has, I believe, Chinese sausage, chunks of brisket, onions, and something else I can’t quite figure out—but it is amazing. The brisket itself is nicely seasoned. With the fried rice, they give you a slice of regular brisket and a slice of moist brisket.
The sides weren’t my favorite. The coleslaw was good, but I couldn’t finish it. It wasn’t a traditional coleslaw, but it was still good. The baked potato salad was basically a regular loaded baked potato cut into chunks.
Now…the mac & cheese. It took me back to my public elementary school days. It’s funny because they actually call it “poor man’s macaroni,” which is hilarious because it reminded me of fish sticks and mac & cheese day at school. It was literally the same mac & cheese. It was delicious for nostalgic purposes, but I don’t think I’d necessarily get it again—not because it was bad, but because it just didn’t have much seasoning.
Another thing I love about this place is that they have Jones Soda, which is a delicious soda brand you don’t see everywhere. It’s the perfect drink to go with the meal.
Now, the picture I posted of my food is from my second visit. I got smart and asked for moist brisket and a quarter pound of house sausage. I didn’t get any sides because this alone was more than enough. Honestly, I was going to get just the fried rice because it’s so filling, but I figured I might as well get the two slices of brisket.
This place is really good. I hope everyone gets a chance to try it at least once in...

If you’re craving a hearty, flavorful meal that’ll leave your taste buds dancing, brisket and rice is where you need to be. The star of the show is the brisket, which is perfectly smoked, tender, and full of that deep, rich BBQ flavor that only comes from hours of slow-cooking. Every bite is an explosion of savory, smoky goodness, with just enough bark to give it that satisfying texture. This is the kind of brisket that you think about long after the meal is over.
But let’s not sleep on the BBQ fried rice. In a word: phenomenal. The fried rice is the unsung hero of the plate, full of smoky BBQ flavor, with just the right amount of crispiness and savory seasoning. The combination of the brisket and the BBQ fried rice is like a match made in BBQ heaven – each complements the other perfectly. It’s the kind of dish you’ll want to keep coming back for, and honestly, it might just be the best fried rice you’ll ever have.
Now, onto the not-so-appetizing part: the parking. The dirt lot is... well, a dirt lot. On sunny days, it’s manageable, though a bit uneven, and you might have to be careful where you step. But when it rains? Let’s just say you’ll want to bring your mud boots. Navigating that lot in wet weather can be a bit of a pain, and if you’re not careful, you might end up with a free mud bath.
That said, don’t let the parking situation keep you away. Sure, it’s a hassle when the weather doesn’t cooperate, but once you sit down and take that first bite of brisket or BBQ fried rice, all your frustrations will melt away. The food is so good, you’ll forget about the parking struggles entirely. It’s one of those rare spots where the flavors are so incredible that even the minor inconveniences are worth it.
In short: come for the brisket, stay for the BBQ fried rice, and brave the parking because this meal is too good to miss. Just maybe keep an umbrella and some sturdy shoes in the car – you’ll...
Read moreA couple years ago I randomly found @brisketnrice seeing the sign and thought “I love brisket! I love rice!” and since that visit, every time someone asks me what bbq to eat in Houston, they are one of the first places I mention. . . If not my #1 push. Sadly and happily they are moving to a bigger location soon so there is no inside seating, and because of that I at out of the back of my car in a parking lot two lights down the street. Got the Brisket & Rice (sub fried rice) and a rib. As I lift the slices of brisket to dangle with my hands to admire, some dude comes out of no where and grabs those slices and runs off. Brisket Thief!!! At least he didnt take my fried rice though. I did go back to the shop to buy some more brisket because i gotta. And saw the sold out sign. Bummer. As I was walking around to just check out to pits, I found Phong Tran about to wrap some briskets and told him what just happened. I still dont 100% comprehend what happened lol. He went inside and came out with some slices of brisket. Im so grateful. The brisket was so good. It was nice and juicy with a strong smoke favor that I’m still burping up. Being able to eat the brisket while admiring the pits that made the brisket in front of the person that made the brisket. Hopefully the brisket thief enjoyed the brisket as much as I did. This fried rice is in my opinion the best bbq rice dish around. The dish consists of brisket, Chinese sausage, eggs, onions, and of course rice. Much like brisket, fried rice is a dish that is simple but the complexity is in that simplicity. As im nibbling on my food I kept telling Phong how much I loved the food and he kept saying, “Its easy”. I think It may be easy to make but hard to do well and harder to perfect. And I feel perfectly satisfied with a perfectly unique experience and meal. Thanks Brisket & Rice. Thanks...
