Nemo & Friends Aquariums — Local services in Jersey Village

While the store's presentation is slightly more polished than other local fish stores, I cannot in good conscience recommend Nemo and Friends Aquariums to any beginner or seasoned saltwater hobbyist.

The lack of quarantine procedures for their livestock is alarming. Unless you have a reliable quarantine system at home, I strongly advise against purchasing from this establishment. My experience over the past year has shown that less than 50% of the fish purchased here survive quarantine, with many exhibiting severe health issues. This raises serious concerns about the ethical standards of their suppliers. Considering the prices, which are often higher than those at major chains like Petco, the risks involved are simply not worth it. While there are knowledgeable staff members, the primary focus appears to be on making sales rather than ensuring the well-being of the fish or the satisfaction of the customer. I have personally encountered, and overheard others receiving, questionable advice that seems tailored more towards closing a sale than providing accurate care information. One might be tempted to take a chance due to their refund policy, but this is where the problems compound. The refund process is akin to dealing with a difficult insurance claim, with the blame rarely falling on them. Even if a refund is secured, it won't cover the potential loss of other fish that may get infected due to a purchase made here. Overall very nice place to shop and look around. But some issues are the word of mouth based prices that seem a bit inconsistent and based off of the memory of the employees. Which leads into the second issue. I have ceased patronage since each interaction with one employee has always been consistently poor. From almost killing the fish I was buying, selling me one type of fish that is actually another, to the sharing of incorrect knowledge despite being in charge of the entire freshwater section. I tried to avoid him when I went but it's not worth it anymore. It was a nice and I enjoyed going a lot but I'd rather go elsewhere for listed prices and less uncomfortable interactions. Final problem, upon my first review of this place after my fish was almost killed, the owner cornered me to insist they are a family owned business and to change my review but that isn't how you do it. The lady is sweet but she needs to learn more if she plans to help customers correctly. Knowing how to decorate a tank isn't enough if you are also selling fish. You need to know their care so you don't cause them harm. The owner runs the saltwater which I don't have so can not tell you about but the guy in charge of freshwater needs some more research on the fish he is responsible for.

To sum it up, go in after doing your own research because at least 2 of the 3 don't have the proper information to share for the care particular to certain fish you may want or already have.

Amazing LFS, if you ever get the thought of having an aquarium of any sort from fresh water to saltwater please swing by and check out their amazing selection, from aquarium supplies all the way to salt water eels. I came to this fish store not knowing what to expect I was anxious and nervous since it was my first time in the salt water hobby as well as my first time going into Nemo & Friends. I was astonished by the quality of service I received . Not only was I helped with picking out necessities to run a saltwater aquarium, but they even took the time and care to make sure I was comfortable with my purchase and helped me understand how the process of setting up a saltwater/reef aquarium is. 100% recommend Nemo and Friends to everyone please support their store and staff members. Amazing people that are very caring and understanding of your situations. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!!! I can go hours in their store and admire all the fish and corals they have!!
