If you are ok with your stylist not following your requests but exercising their own whims, then this may be a good place for you. The first time I went, while I was at first not thrilled with getting a cut that was different than expected, it worked out well and looked fine, which is why I went back for a cut the second time -- but this time was a disaster! Probably one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten. I actually requested a similar haircut to my 1st one that Joseph gave me, and showed him a photo of myself after that cut along with another photo of what I was aiming for. I also specified that I needed a cut that was long enough that I could pull all my hair back in a ponytail (for a trip I was going on with lots of outdoor sports) and secondly, I have acne that flares up whenever I have hair (such as bangs) over my face. The first thing Joseph did was comb my hair over my face and slice it off short -- when I spoke up to ask, "wait, I didn't want it to be that short, will you be cutting the rest of it longer??" he replied "don't worry, don't worry" and kept going without any explanation. The rest of the cut left me looking like I had taken kitchen shears one day and just chopped off my hair in one go. He spent just over that amount of time doing it too. I asked him not to style it with any curl after so I could see what it looked like when he was done and might be able to ask for edits, but he also ignored that and styled it with curl (and really bad style that made me look like I was coming outta the late 80s/ early 90s) so I couldn't really tell the outcome of the cut until I washed and dried it that night. I wonder if perhaps there was a language barrier at play - I don't speak Korean; if so, I wish he had pulled his assistant to help with interpretation!
Since then, it's looked so awful I've had to wear it pulled back to conceal it for the past 6 months, as I couldn't even find a way to style it to make it look half decent. Furthermore, my acne flared up all along the sides of my forehead, cheeks, and chin from my bangs being too short to pull back (and even without using any styling products, my skin is just that reactive) until about 2 months ago when the bangs were finally long enough to keep pulled back, and it's caused scarring and dark spots. I was pretty incensed at the price of the cut at the end, too, but don't like making a scene so I just paid and left.
All this to say, please be aware of what you may be getting if you come here! The one part of the experience that gets a star is the sweet assistant who did a great hair washing.
I wish my previous stylist...
Read moreTook me a while to give my haircut a few weeks to settle into to ensure my feelings were still the same and not in the moment. First thing, the owner asked if I could come early to my appointment. I said I could only come 15 min before my original appointment to accommodate his request. He said ok. I arrived, and it took 30min to get me in a chair. There was no point of me coming early and stressing about it. More importantly there was no acknowledgement. I can understand that he was busy, but then he shouldn't have asked. Second I wanted get my hair dyed an ash brown. The owner and his wife said it would be hard to get my hair that's an Asian brown with a lot of brass undertones to an ash tone. They said it'd be more expensive to try bleaching and dying my hair as an attempt to get to the hair color I wanted. So, I opted to dye my hair without bleach trying to remove the brass tones. In the end it just looked like a dark brown. The wife tried fooling me into thinking my hair color changed...it didn't. They changed me over $100 for the dye job. I don't understand how this was the cheaper option. My last point is I had a specific bob style in mind and a picture I showed the owner. My hair looked nothing like the photo. Not only did he cut my hair horribly, he only took two glances at the picture and ignored the style. The picture had bangs or framing, and my hair after was a blunt cut without bangs. He cut my hair where my hair is uneven especially when you compared my hair from the back to the front. He explained I should always pull my hair to the front before my shoulders to avoid making it look uneven. I can't imagine any professional advising a customer this in my experiences with salons. I regret trying this place for the first time. Next time I'm sticking to my usual salon. I couldn't bring myself to say anything because the owner fell on his butt from overworking himself, so I took pity. Plus I was rushed out of his chair, so he could attend to another customer and his friend. And as Korean American, I felt like the owner and his wife would just accuse me of being rude if I voiced my opinion. In total I paid about $240 for a sloppy and wonky hair cut and mediocre dye job. Good luck to everyone who takes a chance...
Read moreI really regret taking my daughter to this hair salon. She’s been crying for the past 3 days because of the haircut they gave her.
She showed Joseph a reference photo beforehand and asked him to not cut much, only to give her a trim. But when he was done, I was shocked to see her new style was very much different from the photo she showed to Joseph.
My daughter said that Joseph kept cutting her hair off in chunks with a razor without warning. He never communicated beforehand what he was going to do, but just cut out her hair much more than she wanted even when she asked him to stop. He said my daughter’s hair was damaged, but my daughter’s hair is not as her hair has no!perm or coloring.
I remember that, when I myself came to this salon last time, Joseph cut my hair more than I asked. Every time I visited here myself, they pushed hundreds of dollars worth of expensive treatment on me, saying my hair was damaged. I accepted that expensive treatment once but it wasn’t effective at all in my opinion, so $150 went down the drain on the spot.
His cut for my daughter itself was not satisfactory either. The layering looks horrible after she washed it, and now her hair is thin and damaged from the razor he used on it.
I think a stylist should not cut however s/he likes but how the customer asks her/him to do. Now I am at a loss about what I can help and reduce my poor teenage girl’s sadness with the...
