Uodate 5/16 - The location has reached out to me to offer a free project and I declined. They offered me a full refund if I changed my review to 5 stars. I let them know they could not purchase a 5 star review from me because I did not have a 5 star experience. There has been no further correspondence since and I do not think they are going to process any refund. For transparency, I paid $75 for this class.
Pros- Online booking is easy. There are plenty of time slots and choices, and the project/activity descriptions seem accurate.
The prices seem fair for the project and supplies used.
Cons- Our time slot had 9 people and we were all working on different projects. It didn't seem like they had enough instructors to really help the class effectively.
I chose the mosaic art piece. I don't really need instruction or help - just need the materials so I can get to work. It was a slow start as they were trying to set up 9 people at once, but once I got what I needed it was off to the races. They did have templates to use if you wanted but I was freestyling. You tape off the edges and then use resin to 'glue' your tiles directly onto the glass of the picture frame.
Online it said alternate size frames were available but that was not the case. Slightly disappointed, but fine. I got to work. The tile selection was great. Tons of different kinds and colors to choose from. They also could color or add glitter to your resin, which I took advantage of. When it was all said and done I was very pleased with my project! They said it had to dry for 12 hours but based on their store hours it would be a few days before I could pick it up. No worries and I went on my way.
Today I went to pick up my piece and I was honestly shocked. Someone had painted a border on my art piece. It was never discussed. Nobody called to inform me this would happen. This was not done on any of the pieces in the photo gallery online or on any of the displays at the store. I can only assume that they removed the blue tape and felt that it didn't look right in the existing frame because you could see the brown background.
Here's the thing - you have no idea what I wanted my piece to look like. I actually chose the glass tiles and transparent resin because I intended to have it in a float frame like a suncatcher. I did not want a painted border on my glass, and it was very sloppy. It looked bad.
It took me about two hours of scraping and nail polish remover to get most of that paint off. I put it in the float frame and now it's the way I had envisioned. Maybe this wouldn't be a big deal to some, but to me it was disrespectful.
Maybe this is a cool place for parties and kids. Maybe this is a good option for people who just want something to do. But this is clearly not the place for an artist and unfortunately I cannot recommend...
