I had a frustrating experience at the Dick’s Sporting Goods in Joliet, IL on August 5th. I drove to the store to get football cleats for my 7-year-old son, who’s starting his first season. After trying on multiple pairs, we finally found a Nike cleat that fit him perfectly — only to be told the other shoe (the display) was missing and couldn’t be sold.
I waited about 17 minutes while the team searched for it. The associate helping us, Jibbrill, was polite and genuinely tried to help. However, the manager named Paul (possibly over the shoe department) refused to offer any solutions. No offer to order the cleats, no help checking other locations, no discount — just “we can’t sell it.”
Instead, I was shown a pair of $80 Adidas cleats that I didn’t want and didn’t come in for. It felt like there was no real effort made to resolve the issue.
In the end, I found what I needed at another location, but the service and lack of care at this store were disappointing — especially from a manager. Dick’s Sporting Goods should expect better customer service from leadership, especially when helping families prepare for...
Read moreMy friend wanted to buy something and found out that he couldn't buy it and the manger walked up and said "Is the circus in town" and a very derogatory way followed up by a rolling of the eyes and other body language that is of extremely poor customer service. The cashier is super nice, he apologized to us and recommended us a store where we could buy the plant as well as apologizing for his managers rude behavior. Also, not sure what he meant by circus in town? Monkeys tend to be common at circuses and me and my friend are a minority. I really hope that what I think he meant, isn't what he meant but we'll never know.
I digress, the casheirs are great, the manager could use some more training, maybe from his cashiers.
(Keep i mind, I am not 100% sure he was the manager or just a standard employee but from other things he did such as give directions to his employees as well as having the confidence to say those rude remarks among other employees without punishment, I believe only someone with authority would do that- such as...
Read moreFirst off, I want to give credit to Janeen for being kind and welcoming—she was the only positive part of my visit. Unfortunately, the other employee working with her on 09/12/25 at 11:40 a.m. (no name tag, which makes sense after how she acted) made the entire experience terrible.
I walked in simply asking if they could inflate 4–5 soccer balls. The store was empty, and without hesitation she snapped, “Can’t do that.” When I asked why, her sarcastic response was, “Did you buy them here?” I said no, but explained it was just four soccer balls. She then said she could “only do two” and when I asked for an actual reason, her dismissive answer was, “Why would I do that for?”
Instead of helping, she left me to buy a $20 hand pump and even suggested I “go to a gas station.” Imagine walking into a sports store equipped with the proper equipment only to be told to take your business elsewhere.
Completely unprofessional, rude, and honestly embarrassing for a company that’s supposed to support athletes and...
