When I arrived to the Vernola Apartment complex, I was greeted by Maggie Compos. I was scheduled for an apartment tour with my roommate on Jan. 27th. Maggie greeted my roommate by his name and shook his hand. When she looked at me, she said “you must be… Fernando.” I corrected her and said, “No, my name is Jesse.” Instead of apologizing to me by mispronouncing my name. Maggie continued by saying my facial features, and the shape of my face are the reasons why I look “a Fernando.” I stayed quiet until I repeated to Ms. Compos that my name was not Fernando. I apologized to her since it was clearly an inconvenience for her to properly look at my profile and remember my name.
Maggie, changed the conversation as she seen the irritation in my voice and facial expression. She invited my group to take a look at the party room. Once the walkthrough finished, Ms. Compos made a comment to us saying “This area should be affordable, with you working at Home Depot.” Once the tour of the apartment and complex had ended, Ms. Compos was going over the budget and pricing — ending the conversation between me and my roommate with, “I’m going to be trying my hardest guys. Just make sure you pay your rent on time please. We do not do free hand outs here.” Excuse me? Not only was I called a name that wasn’t mine, stereotyped to be working at a job I do not work at, but now it felt like I was being placed as a Section 8 resident. I do not know what made Maggie Compos make those comments towards myself. I felt racially profiled, racially identified to be working in a stereotypical job, and now I’m being viewed as a person who needs a financial ”handout.” Since action will not be taken at Vernola Marketplace, because I feel my comments will not be taken seriously; I will be voicing my frustrations, lack of etiquette, and the racial profiling towards myself from Ms. Compos and the Vernola Marketplace apartments to corporate offices and any legal ramifications that come from it.

Read moreI lived here since June 2024 I loved the complex itself but the new management is HORRIBLE. If you’re hoping for professionalism, fairness, or even basic courtesy from MELODY SHAY….don’t. She’s been here for barely 3-4 months maybe? Barely even know the lady and she is a joke . She comes off as narcissistic, dismissive, arrogant, and more interested in inflating her own ego than managing anything effectively.
A clear example of her priorities is she added her very own special “manager parking” spot she added right in front of the building which I find is a symbolic move that feels more about status than anything else. Instead of focusing on tenants needs, she seems more interested in asserting control.. all I can do is laugh at her silly self It’s also pretty obvious that she spends more time kissing up to the higher-ups than actually doing her job.Honestly, all I can do is laugh at how out of touch she is, because if she gets left, they'll replace her quick.
Worst of all, she talks to tenants like they’re stupid and seems to challenge you rather than help. It’s clear she sees herself above the people she’s supposed to serve.
A leasing office manager is supposed to build a sense of community and BE THERE FOR THE RESIDENTS THAT PAY RENT HERE. MELODY I’M SPEAKING TO YOU DIRECTLY; it feels like you go out of your way to make things harder for the very people you’re paid to serve. It’s giving power trip not professionalism. Youre a JOKE. You're NOT here with the community, you're working against it. DO BETTER. POINT,...
Read moreHonestly this place is section 8 which I didn’t not know nor was it anywhere online or told when visiting, when I first moved everything was fine but after a month of living here I started to notice the community going down hill, it started to become “ghetto, ugly and unsafe,” people smoking marijuana, you are not allowed to have anything or even clean your balcony and if you do you get a warning so I’m just suppose to have a dirty dusty full of leaves balcony, the people upstairs sound like big foot at all hours of the day, the entrance gate almost closed on my car but meanwhile the exit gate is wide open for people that don’t live here to walk/drive right in!!!! The dumpster is disgusting trash literally all over the place, literally people at 2 am digging through the trash, the fire pits don’t even work and haven’t worked for over a year so I’ve been told by other neighbors !!! As a community we are paying for “luxury “ where is the luxury??? Paying almost 3k for what horrible customer service, rent fluctuates every month with annoying point less fees?!? And the parking, I work late come home at midnight from a 10 hour shift and there’s no parking anywhere and I’m suppose to park by the gate and pay for parking ?!?!?just because people that don’t live here take up resident parking?!?! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE VERNOLA and actually talk to your residents and stop giving the same AI response to every review get with the program and one last thing bring back the food trucks that was the one thing I was looking forward to...
