I wont be recommending this school to anyone.. For several reasons I was looking into going back to school (nursing) I have a bachelor's degree and was wanting to start nursing as a second degree. I went to Penn valley to an advising session and I was told only a few classes of mine would transfer in and that my chemistry was not equivalent.. said advisor told me he would talk to the nursing advisor to verify 100% that the chemistry would transfer. The nursing advisor emailed me and said chemistry was infact equivalent. The next step was to take mcc entrance exam and the teas test I took the mcc exam and the score I received did not match the scores on the form the nursing advisor sent me. Because of this I had to retake a portion because I had been studying for the wrong version of the test. No where was it stated which version I'd be taking. So I took the portion again so I got that out of the way. Next was the teas exam I took it and passed. Applied within the timeline was waiting for a response on whether I got into the program or not. I received an automated response saying that my application was denied because of missing teas scores. I emailed the advisor about this because I took the teas test at one of the mcc campuses so they had my scores.. and getting the nursing advisor to respond either through email or on the phone was always an issue. He told me that it wasnt my teas score that made me incapable for starting the program it was in fact my GPA wasnt high enough. Just hope this situation doesnt happen to...
Read morefirst of all, i'm new to this country and i have learned English at my home town, Penn valley community college should help students that are international students which is not the case for me( they didn't help me at all), i am having the most horrifying experience with them, their staff doesn't know anything about my case and when they transfer me to miss boby she doesn't wanna talk to me bcz she thinks I'm not an international student no one explains anything to me, i was really clueless for the past 3 months. i'm trying to enroll and i needed my high school diploma to be transcribed, and i'm waiting about a month now and it only takes one week for them to do it, but the problem was the employee i gave my high school diploma to she didn't send it, and right now i have to wait one more week to be able to enroll in class, and i didn't even mention the horrible experience that i had with their phone customer service. every time i call they transfer me to the wrong people and then they hangup on me, they don't know what I'm trying to tell them, they don't want to even understand my problem, no one is helpful no one cares no one cares about student problems, and I'm just thinking why the hell I wanna study i should just site at home rather then to deal with all the horrible things i got to go through, i hate this college i don't think i will ever be happy in this college with their...
Read moreVery disappointing experience at the enrollment centers. Ive been to the Blue River and the Penn Valley campus and the academic advisors do not live up to their titles. I'm trying to go back to school to better my situation, I havent been in a school setting in over 8 years I need direction and guidance and I was treated like I should know how the class schedules work and how to get myself enrolled. I was mislead on the prerequisites for the program I was interested in. I was given the run around going from person to person when I even selected that I was there to meet with an advisor right from the moment i signed in. College is intimitading and even more so when you're going back after so many years of being out of the game. Have some patience and compassion. To you advisors, you do this everyday its second nature but you have to remember its someone else's very first time and we are all lost on our first day. I wish any future MCC students a better...
