Huge park with plenty of trees, some water stations, poop bag stations and plenty of benches. Unfortunately, this really only describes the big dog area 40 lbs. Small dog area has a bench and shade from 1 nearby tree and the area is super small. So this basically forces everyone with a small dog into the big dog area.
With that said the dog park has some of the most pretentious people I've ever met. People that sit there, read a book, or on their phone, not paying attention or even interacting with their dogs. People that jog around the park and then get upset when a dog thinks they're playing a game of "chase." Since the problem described above forces small dog owners to go to the large area to get some shade or more dog interaction they're the most pretentious of all when a big dog comes near their tiny dog and can become irate over the big dog playing too "rough." It's hard to blame the dog owners on that one since the city put poor planning into the small dog area, but if you don't like big dogs playing with little fluffy you shouldn't even be at a dog park.
The dog park is nice, and in a central location with pretty good amenities, but it could have been built better to accommodate small dogs (I'm also not a small dog owner, just observations from my visits there). The people also suck because they think of it as social time with other people rather than for their dogs. If you want to socialize with other people go to a bar or find a book club or something.
On a final note the grass is getting pretty darn long and can sometimes make finding your dogs poop a daunting task, so careful where you step. When it rains have fun giving your dog a bath later because it's a...

This is perhaps the biggest or one of the biggest dog parks in the Kansas City area. there are slopes and some flat spots. There is grass, however there is so much running and foot traffic that it gets warn down and becomes dirt. There is a section for small dogs and a much bigger section for the big dogs. as far as fecal matter goes, it's mostly found near the fence, but in the middle, there's hardly any. People seem to pick up promptly after their dogs defecate. there are a handful of benches in both sections. There's a handful of picnic tables in both sections.
There is parking right outside the entrance of the dog park which is convenient.
There are trash bins where doggy bags can be disposed.
I presume it gets muddy when it rains simply because a lot of spots don't have much grass . Bring some shoes that you don't mind getting dirty, the dirt has a high clay Contant, so it can be soft. So, having shoes with soles which have texture would be good.
I'm giving it four stars. I'd say because there are lots of different dogs here and it's relatively clean. There's plenty of space. I'd say it's one of my favorite dog parks...
Read moreMy 10 year old son (who is almost as big as I am) was attacked a month or more ago by a pit bull/American bull dog named King. Luckily he had on a carheart coat to protect his arm. He would have had puncture wounds, and a cut about 4 inches long. I decided to go back with the kids and give it a try and we were about to go inside and witnessed a puppy pitbull attacking a medium dog about the size of our dog. If we would’ve gotten there any earlier, it could’ve been our dog. It was a very traumatic situation, since my son had just been attacked. Both of my kids were screaming and crying. The lady was punching her dog in the head, trying to get it off of the man’s dog. The dog that was attacked had a gash and puncture wounds in his neck. I had been back by myself with our dog since my son‘s attack and three other people had commented on King attacking other dogs, and other attacks they had experienced there with their own dogs. It’s a rough park. Not to mention the amount of dog poop that people do not pick up after their dogs and the homeless people that come to the fire pit and leave all kinds of things there for your dogs, pills or...
