Since enrolling it has been a poor experience. Each person you talk to speaks to you as if you are bothering them or they are doing you a favor by speaking to you. They are not helpful, they do not keep you updated, and they are not very interested in whether or not you even attend their school.
When I first went in I was advised I had already sent over my transcripts. I was advised that before anyone would speak to me I would need to complete the placement exams, but since I had already completed a math course that was higher than required for them, I would not need to take the math portion only the reading and writing. I took these two portions and came back.
After a while a gentleman came out and invited me to his office where he told me I would still have to take the math portion because I was going into a health field and they required that whether I passed it or not to move forward. He also laid out which classes would be required as prerequisites for the nursing program and that they encouraged applying to multiple programs because I might not get in. He was very matter of fact and seemed disinterested in whether or not I moved forward.
I enrolled online and went to look at my financial aid so I could pay for the classes and there was none available. I contacted the school and was told that they now required me to give transcripts for two cosmetology schools I attended in 1995 which are both no longer in existence. I had to then call the Kansas Registrar to find out that there were no records for these types of schools at the time unless you took the board exams, which I did not, and so there were no records available.
While attempting to do this I was told I would need to contact the representative in charge of my campus, Maureen Kelly. I attempted multiple times to call and she never returns calls. I finally got her to return an email and was told to get a letter stating this. I can't get her to return my calls to tell me whether or not she has received the letter.
Save your time and money and attend a University or JCCC where they at least pretend to be excited that you chose to attend...
Read moreNot bad if you’re needing to start fresh in a career and they offer great courses for a degree or a trade certificate.
Good luck trying to get help by calling that number. I had some books that I bought but never used but I didn’t have the receipt. I called and explained my situation and the lady on the phone told me “you can try” When I asked, if its possible to return books without a receipt. Oh yeah.. if they say you need “x” book for a course you’re taking.. 9/10 You won’t ever use it. Instead they make you pay more for third party software on top of the courses you’re already paying for! Great! Spend more money!
Sometimes staff are unhelpful. I had failed a math class in my first semester (yeah I know, I was never an egg head in math) and my counselor either didn’t know or didn’t care and put me in an advanced math class I was never supposed to be in. I had asked the professor about it and he told me I was never on his roster so I went down to student services and met with a different counselor who told me “You were added in there by mistake. You were never supposed to be in that class” oh really? Thanks!
I’d also recommend using “Rate My Professors” before committing to a class because some of these professors are unnecessarily hard asses, don’t explain things well or correctly and never reference the syllabus after the first day.
They need to re-open the cafeteria and stop supplementing it with fast food joints and vending machines with sub-par “food” options.
In my opinion and experience, I’d use MCC as a base for a trade program rather than college itself, there’s much better college options out there if you...
Read moreFor your kid's sake, do not send them to this school. I get the appeal of a cheaper community to achieve an associates degree and a bridge to a 4 year institution, but this is not the school for that. Their staff will make graduation and transfer as difficult as possible. If you feel you have to go there, record everything they say. I would say, get everything in email, but you can send dozens of emails to their advisers and they will not respond. At my time there I had an adviser refuse to change my degree, then give me the incorrect courses for that degree, had an adviser tell me to drop several courses because I didn't need it for then degree, then not let me re-enroll in those courses when it turned out I did, was told a Chemistry course transferred to complete my degree both before and after the transfer, then after a misleading email stating "Congratulations you met the requirements to walk at graduation!" and several phone calls telling me my degree was in the mail, was told it didn't transfer and I couldn't graduate. These are only a few issues that occurred with me, and I had several friends and family members experience the same sort of problem. I don't want the same treatment I went through to occur to future students. Please take your education to a place that...
