The only Kmart left in Florida!
This store has already made history. It is near Miami and I was very lucky that there was one an hour away south of my paternal grandmother's house. I was so glad that there was one so near by that I paid a visit to this rare Kmart that is still open today (actually, I visited on Tuesday August 22 while vacationing).
While they did downsize recently, it is well stocked and very neat + clean though there weren't a lot of customers in that store.
The so-called garden center (that surely used to have plants, gardening supplies and more) is the section where clothes, back to school supplies and summer merchandise are sold now. The store registers are now relocated in the garden center as well.
I couldn't resist making it here just because I loved Kmart and that there used to be one in my hometown all the way up in Vernon, Connecticut before shutting it down for good back in 2019.
The last time I was in a Kmart before that Miami visit was the Holyoke, MA store in early 2020 shortly before it closed once COVID pandemic started.
This shall be, as considered the last time I'm ever stepping foot in a Kmart. Thank You for letting shoppers make memories at America's Favorite Store of the 1970's and 80's when KCafes used to exist in those stores.
Blame Fast Eddie (a corrupt CEO for Sears Holdings / Transformco), Walmart and Amazon for the collapse of K-Mart in the US.
Long live with all of the...
Read moreThis is the very last Kmart in the entirety of the United States after the one in Bridgehampton, New York closes on October 20, 2024. This store deserves a five-star review if only for being the last location of a vaunted, important brand in the history of the United States and American retail.
Kmart can be looked upon fondly by some and as a curiosity by others. For most, however, it should be looked at as more of a cautionary tale about not rolling with the punches. It takes money to make money--we've all heard that. Well, when you run a giant chain of discount retail stores and don't invest in your facilities or your most important asset, your people, then you are doomed to fail.
Kmart as a concept was much better than it was in execution. I would love to see Kmart return as an alternative to Walgreens and Rite-Aid that's something like halfway between a 7-Elevent store and a pharmacy with fresh grab-and-go food items and everyday essentials. There is room for a store more like a Japanese 7-Eleven store in the United States, and Kmart as a brand isn't too pretentious to be adorned to such a theoretical store.
To think that S.S. Kresge started Kmart in on July 31, 1899 and 125 years later it still exists, but only as a singular retail location in Miami, Florida is quite a trip. Here's to another 125 years for Kmart! There are also four more locations in the United States Virgin...
Read moreTERRIBLE! I went to kmart to shop for some plants with my daughters 8 and 5, while i was in the garden center the door was locked on us; we realized that the door was closed when we were preceding to pay. We started banging on the door for 20 minutes, we call the store and nobody answered the phone. The manager of the store locked me and my daughters outside in the gardening center, it was over 90 degrees! I continued to bang on the door my fingers are sore, my daughters were very scared, after a while finally another customer came and tried to open the door but he couldn't, it was locked, he managed to unlock it and let us in. When I went to tell a cashier she apologized and told me to tell the manager. I went to talk to the manager and she scolded me saying "everyone knows the gardening center closes at 6pm, and I closed it, there was noone there" I WAS, she then said "there is another door you could have used" that door is not easy visible, she never apologized or tried to make it right, she neglected to identify her self and basically let me know it was our fault. It's no wonder the store is in such bad shape, bad employees create bad customer satisfaction, never going back, you just...
