Longstanding Japanese hibachi steakhouse. Owner is very attentive. Hibachi food quality has been mastered. Consistent. HOWEVER, hibachi cook that runs around with a squeaky plastic duck needs to get a lesson in situational awareness and cultural sensitivity. I'm no woke but this Filipino was making fun of Cuban culture and idiom from the lowest classes of Cuban society. He was pretending to be "Cuban" in an obvious mocking way. He engaged my 85 yr old father and suggested he has "women on the side" a "player" while my mother, his wife sat next to Him. It quickly became awkward and this man would not stop. He constantly called my mother an 80 year old woman Mami. Not as in mother but in a more disrespectful tone. Mami this Mami that. After asking my wife about food choice he said "Thank you señorita or is it señora." with just a plain weird and ackward delivery. If you are familiar with Spanish language you know SEÑORA is for a Married woman usually with children and SEÑORITA is for an unmarried Virgin. I mean it was incredibly awkward and embarrassing doe all at the table. As this guy though he was being funny. He starts by mocking Cuban culture, and ends by disrespecting those at the table. We were there for a family meal. We are Traditional Roman Catholics and do not play those games. This man needs to be re-trained on table manners and how to treat customers. Especially an older conservative family with children. I know Filipinos and they would know how to act. They would know this behavior is wrong and they wouldn't engage in it. This was a very disappointing visit. We were stunned as we walked out. Couldn't believe that lack of situational awareness this man had. Needless to say we will not be coming back anytime soon. We hope this man doesn't lose his job. The food was good. Tasty. Although he was not focused on the presentation as it wasn't as sharp and consistent with "the show" as it normally is. It seemed it was an afterthoughts as he was OBSESSED with Making himself the center of attention thru his poor comedy act instead of making the Hibachi cooking experience the center of attention which is in fact what we came for. And instead we were uncomfortable and very disturbed at the very rude and disrespectful way he treated us. Nobody likes to have his culture and his dignity mocked especially in front of their family. My 85 year old dad was visibly angry when this man kept insinuating he had a "side girlfriend" or that somehow he was a "player." He was trying to be funny but that's not funny. Maybe to high-school boys in a locker room but not at a family meal. I engaged him firmly and challenged him on how he mocked Cuban speak. Reminded him that was the poor and uneducated and we didnt speak that way. he then realized we were not appreciating his very improper antics. That he ruined our family meal. What a disaster. On a side note the regular wait staff was subpar. They used to be better. Our young waiter would disappear and it made it difficult to keep our water and other needs filled. But nowadays it seems good wait staff is hard to find and maintain. So this would not have been a big deal. Also, the owner was extremely attentive on arrival and exit. I don't think he realized what was happening and we didn't complain as I didn't want to make the meal even more of a disaster. We figured we push thru and hope this chef would leave as soon as possible so we could enjoy our meal. Too bad as this restaurant has been consistent over many years. But one badly trained employee can tarnish the reputation...
Read moreLet me break it down, I worked here and it is completely horrible working here, they give too many side jobs to the busboy and the waiters also have a few more side jobs but not as much labor as bus boys, apart from that, they threaten everyone to take money away from them if they break a glass, or screw up on a side job or don't complete a side job, this is money that they are taking away straight out of their paychecks and goes to their pockets, and they pay most people under the table, and let me tell you that they go through a good handful of busboys because they keep quitting because of how ridiculous this place makes you work. The kitchen, oh man, let me tell you about the kitchen, the people that cook there are probably the nastiest people I have ever seen in my life. I can guarantee you that no one in the kitchen washes their hands, and I know because I have been in the bathroom and then a chef is coming in to use the urinal and then walk out without even washing his hands. These people also sneeze all over the place while they cook the food for either take out or dining in. a customer actually found a few bolts inside her fried rice once, I was surprised she didn't sue. The worst things I saw them do is the fact that one of the freezers broke one day and they cleaned it out and it had a few fishes and pork ear, these people grabbed what was left inside and actually cooked it and ate it themselves, but if you think them eating expired and probably rotten food is the worst part, one of my ex coworkers told me that he has seen the chef grab old meat such as chicken and beef and served it to people. Also, the chefs get drunk in the kitchen while they work and sometimes screw up orders, so dont be suprised why your food taste funny or...
Read moreWell they truly lost an entire family today. My kid went with her boyfriend today and was chased down because they did not tip on bad service. They decided not to tip because they felt poorly served. The server chased them down and berated them. Being they were only 16 and 17 years old. Needless to say I ripped into to them for allowing themselves to be pressured by this poor excuse of resteraunt and server.
My entire family and circle of friends will boycott this place.
As another reviewer stated their suggested tip on the bill does recommend on the taxes amount...
Also they are more expensive than their competitors in the area.
After submitting my review I read others and now I know why I always get a seat right away. It's because its not really that great Look at the responses of some of their not so favorable reviews. It's all combative and unprofessional.
Buyer beware they claim to mandate an 18% tip on parties or 4 or more but if you feel it is not warranted they have to remove it if your request to have it removed if they do not report them. The IRS to ensure it's a service charge and not a gratuity. That way the server gets all of their tips taxed and the restaurant...
