This particular store is mismanaged, or more accurately has a lack of management. My wife and I visited last weekend. Over the 30 mins we were there, many young employees milled around. They hung out in groups, using their phones. I would estimate seeing up to 10 employees doing this, just up around the store front. We went to stand in line and the line was back into the clothing racks. I asked a male employee if they could open another register. He ignored me. I politely but louder said, will you please call your manager and ask for more registers to be opened. He turned and walked 30 feet away and acted busy. We ended up waiting an checking out and realized we forgot something. I went and gabbed it and got back in line. The line was 15 ft into the clothing racks by now. He also ignored me and just tried to look busy. There were at least 8-9 employees within my sight, and only 2 registers open now. After I waited through the line again, I politely asked the cashier if she would call the store manage up to the front. She paged the manager and her phone rang. She was speaking for like 45 secs to a manager. I raised my voice and said, May I just speak with her on the phone? I was ignored again and could hear the voice asking... What does he want? They hung up. The cashier said that she, the manager, was busy in the back. She attempted to redirect me to a very young (19 yo?) girl at another register who was obviously not a manager. I attempted to talk to that girl who was obviously overwhelmed and already arguing with another employee. I stood and waited for he attention for like 2 mins, then finally just left. CORPORATE MANAGEMENT, PLEASE FIX THE CRATER LAKE STORE!!! I love Academy Sports, but I don't know how many more of these encounters I can have before I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy first time in an Academy Sports. Usually do yo DSG but figured I try this place. I'll start off with the positive. Great selection of items. They sell guns, which is a 1 up on DSG. Prices of overall items are competitive and most cases better than DSG. The negative now, I'm not sure if it was just the current staff but these particular employees they had working that day were slow, didn't seems to comprehend well and customer service lady was awkward and had attitude as if I disturbed her from doing her her job. I placed an online ok, walked in and greeted politely in fairness but that's where it ended, cause I ask the kids where do I pick online orders? He looked like I asked him to do trigonometry. "Uh well I'm not sure?" I told him I assume its at customer service desk?he asked, the other guy looked annoyed that he had to do work. I then continue to walk to the customer service desk and then this girl had rude tone as I disturbed her day from the nothing she was doing. She calls the third kid and his awkward self brings out items in cart and day here you go but then this cart had other items that weren't ours. I told him, we only have "XYZ", these other items aren't ours, he looked confused. Luckily I'm not a thief otherwise I could've walked out with other items I didn't purchase. The customer experience on this particular day felt as if I were in a walmart. But now that I know what to expect, I'll be prepared. I gave it 3 star cause they have a good selection & prices, but lazy and unaware staff. So it's exactly what 3 star says. it is just ok.
Fyi, I referred to the staff as kids due to their appearance and just the way this generation is lazy, everyone wants a dollar but don't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo the store was awesome, but my customer service experience was not so much. I went in to replace my watch. I spent time shopping the whole store, it was great. Clean, great product availability, friendly staff, until it was time to check out. I grabbed a watch off a $29.99 peg, and it rang up $49.99. I asked them to verify, knowing what I grabbed. Another Team Member went over and looked and said they were $49.99. I can deal with that. Cool I don't want the watch at that price point. But, they didn't say thanks for bringing to our attention or sorry that it happened nothing. Most retailers would take the hit, honor the lower price and fix the issue. None of that happened. So I went back over to the watches to double check I wasn't bananas and sure enough the same SKU G-Shock watch was on 4 different pegs and different price points. I took a photo to show the Team Member the deficiency, told him I'll let it go, but another customer might not. I'm cool not buying the watch I have other means of telling time. But to be blown off over this was off putting. I've shopped at Academy forever, and I've never had anything close to this happen. Is this an example of living the company's values? I wouldn't think so. Again, this isn't about not getting the watch. I'm upset that they saw the deficiency, and ignored it. How much time does it take to move the produt to the correct peg and put away the overstock? Is it a blow to the ego to say thanks? And when you see this post look at the product, find the SKU and check the...
