Very outdated YMCA. Child watch hours are limited till 10:30am. It is a small room, at least with windows (YMCA Mid County branch Child Watch room doesn't have any windos- very depressing) and you can see your kid when you walk by on the hallway. The two people in charge of the Child Watch when I went, was a young guy and a lady with mobility issues due to morbid obesity. He was engaged with the kids in the room (at least was actually watching them). The lady was on her phone when I dropped my kid, when I checked my kid (twice) and when I picked up my kid too. Poor professionalism, I felt bad for the guy, because he practically was by himself working. If you need Child Watch while you work out, this is not the YMCA to go. For best Child Watch educated personnel your go to is Carondelet YMCA and River Chase YMCA, they are committed, happy, they change diapers if needed and ok with you, they do activities with the kids, more hours, and I have personally seen how they take care of babies (Carondelet location).
The gym equipment: Small spaces, crowded machines next to each other, no windows, basement equipment with no ventilation, I was concerned about my health in this place.
Classes: Be 15 minutes early for your class. I signed up for Strength Training class and arrived 5 minutes before and the room was completely full. I don't know why they let sign up more people than the...
Read moreMy Experience with the Kirkwood YMCA was extremely unplesant. When we signed our daughter up for swim lessons, they informed us there was not enough people taking the class for for them to keep the scheduled class so we could either do private lessons, try the class below or get a refund (keep in mind this was after registration had closed, becomes important later). I chose the option to have her try the class below. The class was over crowded with kids and the level of instruction she was given was minimal at best. I asked them for a refund based on her not enjoying the class an dnot getting anything out of it, mentioning that we had tried a different class and that it was a better fit our daughter and I was told I could not get a refund because the registration deadline had already past. This of course is a lie because I had already been given the option for a refund. This was my first experience with the YMCA and will likely be my last. If you have gotten this far, please look a Foss swim school or Lifetime, both seem to be much better at teaching and...
Read moreIf you are a woman, do not work out at the Kirkwood YMCA. I do not feel I can work out comfortably because I constantly get stared at (not glances, stares) by other gym members, specifically men. I am not asking to be stared at when I am minding my own business. In the small weight room with no air circulation, I feel more safe in baggy clothing than tight, and even then, âsafeâ is a stretch, as the harassment does not stop there. You would most likely overheat in baggy clothing and still be stared at. I have voiced my concerns to many staff members, on some occasions in tears, and yet the problems remain. Although I live extremely close to this location, I would rather drive out of my way to another location. Additionally, the lack of gym etiquette is absolutely ridiculous, as the rules are broken every day. I have never encountered such an unprofessional and...
