Hanger 94 — Local services in La Mesa

Customer Service Was directed today by a helpful employee working upstairs to a rack with discounted board shorts for my son. The shorts were all priced $39.99. Another employee helped us at that the discount rack for sizing which we appreciated. We took the shorts up to the register and they rang up @ $55.00 which I realized after I paid for them. I realized this before leaving the store. So I asked the girl at the register to please honor the $39.99 price but she wouldn't. Her explanation was that some customer must have put those shorts in the discount area. I even asked another employee for help with the price and he gave the same programmed answer. My thoughts are, more than likely an employee forgot to mark the shorts down. We all make mistakes but she chose to place blame with the customer. I wouldn't be shocked if she didn't know that customers are why she has a paycheck. I have spent a ton of money in this store over the years for clothes for my son and myself. We have also purchased skateboards & other apparel such as hats. This isn't the 1st time I've had a bad experience with pricing. I gave them another chance today because they are mom and pop owned. However I really don't think we will be back again. The employees have a bad outlook concerning how they view customers. I have a feeling it is directly passed down from the ownership here. I am 46 years old, my son and air were followed around the store like we were about to steal something. Considering our experience today we will not be back. This place is literally the best stocked surf shop I have ever been in. Best of all, without the corporate feel. Its like your cool uncle’s harry's garage met black beard's treasure chest. As my 15 year old would say Hanger 96 is completely lit. I walked in “just to browse” and walked out convinced I needed at least three more surfboards, a hoodie that makes me look 20% cooler, and a hat that may or may not give me better psychic wave-reading powers.

The staff? They did not make me feel like was not cool enough to walk in and ask questions, which is great because I am a total kook most of the time.

They don’t just sell you gear—they hype you up like you’re an american gladiator about to win Pipeline, even if you’re really just wobbling on a foamie in front of the Cardiff kook. I asked one question about wax and got a TED Talk on surf science that somehow made me feel smarter (and maybe a little dumber) at the same time.

Also, shoutout to the vibe. It’s part surf museum, part clubhouse, part “bro, grab a cold drink and stay awhile.” You don’t just shop here—you hang here, make questionable financial decisions, and walk out grinning like you just found buried treasure.

Worst place to spend your money if you can’t respect a person coming in to (spend their hard earned money) you don’t need to have this establishment open. I came in with my lady friend and not get greeted once. It’s freaking the holidays. I see kids standing around on their phones rather than helping someone who wanted to spend $$$$& more. You may need to help these kids with their social skills and how to end a sale , show your employees how to properly greet a costumer when they walk in and when they exit. Please step your game up. I don’t think I’ll ever return here. However if you like to be scammed on certain items come here and watch these girls in hoochi outfits eating on there lunch break then go here. I’ll be sure they won’t happy about this but let it be known. You helping me while they are eating food and texting what’s so important that you need to be on your phone ??? I think it is a total disrespect not cool On So Many levels. These people with there little minds on there phone such a waste of time.
