Play It Again Sports La Mesa — Local services in La Mesa

This is our local Play It Again Sports and they are simply awesome! They have all the qualities we look for: Small business owner; so happens to be a 9 minute drive from home; plenty parking; awesome staff. First, their selection is top notch. You can instantly tell how keyed in they are to our community by how many items they are able to buy and sell. Second, their customer service is impeccable, but I say that particularly because of one person - Brandon.

He may not remember but we bought our 3-year-old's first bike from there and he helped us adjust the training wheels. We went back this weekend for another bike and thankfully he was there again, helping us try out bikes and adding training wheels from another bike. He even laughed at my co-parent's terrible dad jokes, which is just a nice thing to add :). He never seemed "put upon" or as if we were bothering him. You get the sense he sincerely enjoys helping people pick out the right equipment, which means the world to someone like me who knows nothing about bikes.

All staff let us know we're free to take the bike outside to let our daughter try it out. Now you can't do that at any big box store!

I recently purchased a glove from Play It Again Sports La Mesa, and although things started off a little rocky, I’m really happy with how everything turned out.

At first, I was told the store couldn’t honor the online price or my military discount and honestly, my conversation with one of the staff members (John) felt dismissive and unhelpful. I left that call feeling pretty frustrated and also because I’m overseas.

Fortunately, Dan stepped in and completely turned the experience around. He personally followed up, honored the original online price, applied the military discount, and even arranged the partial refund quickly. Communication was smooth, and everything was handled professionally once he got involved.

The glove arrived in perfect condition exactly as described and I couldn’t be happier with the final outcome. Mistakes happen, but what matters most is how a business resolves them, and in this case, Play It Again Sports La Mesa really came through.

Had such a great experience at Play It Again Sports! The staff were incredibly nice and helpful — super knowledgeable but not pushy, which I really appreciated. They gave me space to browse but were quick to answer any questions I had. As someone who’s more familiar with snorkeling, I had a few beginner questions, and they never made me feel out of place or inexperienced — just genuinely helpful and supportive.

I ended up getting a wetsuit, and it’s been perfect so far — great quality and an even better price, especially for someone just starting out in a new hobby. The store also had an impressive selection of gear for all kinds of sports — baseball, surfing, snowboarding, golf, and more. I really loved the vibe of the place — welcoming, well-organized, and fun to explore.
