A good place to shop. They usually have things that other hardware stores don't carry.
But the staff is the main reason why I go. The older long time employees are very, very helpful. They actually take the time to help you find an item or part that your looking for.
Whether its driveway lighting, ceiling fans, porch lights, painting, step stools, lumber, fencing, camping gear, parts for your lawn mower, nut and bolts and window screen replacement, drains, they are there to help you. And they actually know what they are talking about. They will even order flag poles and good quality walking canes for you.
When it comes to plumbing Dave and Rick are great! They will take the faucets apart and show you what the problems are, how to fix them and how to properly clean and add, as well as, not to add to the specific part, such as plumbers grease vs teflon tape for example, and put the faucet back together properly. To actually see the part and how it works as they explain it to me really helped me understand what they were saying. I have learned so much from Dave. Thank you Sir!
As far as some of the newer younger employees go, well let's just say that the older long time employees believe in customer care and quality service. They actually care about their work ethics. As the song goes "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks"
The younger employees I don't believe were ever taught by their parents, or taught in school those same work ethics.
They start out by assisting you but if you turn to reach for something they dissappear. If I'm looking for an item I may get the old "if it's not on the shelf we're out or don't carry it " routine, but only to be found by the older employee. Or the newer/younger employees say "I dont know" or "Whatever". That's too bad.
But I will continue to shop at Merritt's Ace Hardware store as long as they continue to have quality service. Otherwise I may as well go back to Home...
Read moreOn Thursday 7-6-23 I went to ACE to drop off my screen door frame to get it rescreened. They took measurements and i asked them to please make sure they didn't warp my frame because I've had other screens fixed by them with that problem. The person helping me wrote done this instruction on the receipt. I was instructed to pay first then come back the following day to pick it up. The next day 7-7-23 I went to pick it up at 5:30pm and it wasn't ready. One of the workers was trying to rush to rescreen it , but I notified them not to because I wanted them to take there time so the screen can come out correctly. I went to pick it up the following day again 7-8-23 it was ready this time. We took it home and unfortunately the frame wasn't fitting my screen door because they gave me back a warped rescreened frame. I took it back explained the problem, the person was writing a new order receipt and called his manager to get an approval. The manager MARK RIVAS came very aggressive, defensive and very rude telling us we brought the frame warped. As much as I kept telling him it wasn't warped when we brought it MARK RIVAS wasn't listening. He claimed he rescreened it himself and so he said I'm going to return your money back. He took off the screen he claimed to have put on himself and as soon as he took it off my frame, I had a straight frame again. I told him to look at my straight frame. He stood quiet and looked dumb founded because he knew he was wrong as soon as he saw my frame straight and not warped like he claimed it was. Read moreThis Merritt's Ace Hardware Store has been in business for a very long time on that particular corner in La Puente. It is a huge hardware store with a lot of aisles full of products, like a one-stop shopping experience! I was searching for a home product that was difficult to find (had already been to 5 other home goods-type stores, could not find my product at any of these 5 different stores! 😣).
When you walked into this store, service were so organized, friendly, helpful, and professional: Someone to greet you, ask what you might be looking for, they then call the staff member in that section to help you. Product was not on shelf so I was sent to the office and the staff member looked up the product right away, saw that there were supposed to have some of this product still in stock.
Called staff over, everyone double checked the dates shipment came in, and they changed the researched product in the system since they duscovered store had sold out, wrote up form to stock shelves again per (I presume) manager's OK, and ordered quick product request for me to pick up by next store shipment date (no shipping charges, just paid for the product). They will call me when the order comes in.
I was given a ticket and they wrote up receipt after product was prepaid by me, along with a free rewards card so I can gain points for my purchases there; will also get coupons to use there for future use.
