We live in town, and after multiple bad experiences of late, I'm writing a review. They have new owners, and they are terrible in terms of customer service. I have had experiences with them taking a two piece item and splitting it into two different sku's and selling them for above list, have had the manager say he won't take back defective lightbulbs even though he admitted they were bad, and the last straw being that the store does not honor their own pricing for online goods. I literally could add the item to my cart and have it picked up at the store, but if I went to the store they would not honor the price...even after showing the price on their website to the manager. So I'm done with this store, and would suggest that customers be very careful in their dealings as the new owners imo offer horrific customer service. I went to another local Ace today and they had the same item on sale with a big sale sign that Lafayette would not honor the sale price of....

Me calling my local (Oakland) Ace Hardware, after the manufacturer told me they shipped my specialty halogen bulb there: "No ma'am, we don't know if we have these light bulbs. We have a lot of light bulbs. We have Halogens. You'll have to come in and look for them."
Me calling 10 miles away to Lafayette Ace: "What is the part number? I'll be right back." (A few minutes later) "Yes, it's in stock and the price is $xx." I asked how many they had. "About eight." Me: "I'll take them all." Lafayette Ace: "Would you like me to check for more?" Me: "Yes, if you have ten I would like them. They are difficult to find."
The gentleman put them aside for me. Customer service here...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOf the two Ace stores close to me, I tend to visit this location less for no other reason than it's less convenient and variety is slightly less. But the reason for my rating is that I often swing by this location for quick purchases, generally, $50 or less. On my last visit, I bought an item on sale and another regular price. Something didn't seem right walking back to the car, so I double-checked, and the sale item did not ring up as such. Now, the kicker, the 2nd item shelf price is $7.79, but rang up as $8.99. I got my price adjusted but really made me think about whether or not I've been overcharged in the past and how many other people bought the same $7.79 item but paid more. I smell something fishy but won't make assumptions. Double check your receipt or, better, pay attention to what price shows up on register before taking...
