My wife, kids and I have lived in our house since 2007. While raising a family, working, and going to college simultaneously, we accumulated an abundance of student loan and consumer debt. Shortly after purchasing our house in 2007, the housing crisis of 2008 came about and we lost about $100,000 in equity. We rode the storm, and continued to make all scheduled mortgage payments on time as the house was always priority number one.

Fast forward to Fall/Winter 2019, and our home had appreciated in value substantially since our original purchase in 2007. Between that and making our payments to reduce the principal balance, a large amount of equity in our home had grown. I knew Chris Borg (with Vantage Mortgage Group, Inc.) from my local leads group Chapter of LeTip (Tigard/SW Metro), and had gained trust in him even prior to deciding to explore refinancing our home to see about improving our financial outlook. Little did I know when first meeting him, just how much Chris Borg would help us out with our future goals…

We began the process of shopping mortgage rates with Chris. He helped explain the process, the pros/cons of different packages being offered, and professionally steered us toward an option that was in our best interest. Between the historically low interest rates being offered, and the equity in our home, the timing couldn’t have been any better to pull the trigger on a home refinance that could change our life as we knew it.

We closed our refinance with Chris Borg at the end of November 2019, and had an excess cash to close check that helped us pay off roughly 75% of our student loan and consumer debt. Our monthly cash flow improved immediately by $2,100 per month from our refinance with Chris (by not being drowned by monthly debt payments), and allowed us to more manageably tackle the remaining 25% of student/consumer debt that will now be paid off much faster. We went from living paycheck to paycheck paying on debt payments with no end in sight, to now looking at being debt free (other than the mortgage payment at a very low interest rate of 3.25%).

Although the speed at which we were making progress on that remaining debt has slowed a bit (due to my wife being furloughed due to COVID), we can survive, manage, and still make progress without fear of losing everything. Even though we planned to refinance well before COVID, it unknowingly lined us up to weather yet another storm like happened in 2008.

Our family is truly forever grateful for Chris and his service that he provided to us. He helped us to catch the wave, and to weather the storm…and I feel blessed to have met such a valuable mortgage resource we can now...

First off, I have to say that this team is AWESOME!! Amanda and Liz are the epitome of professional and responsive!!

A bit of background- I had paid off all of my debts after selling my old house, but my credit score was still not where I thought it should be. Amanda thought the same thing and did a little digging. She was able to uncover that I had a medical bill that went to collections during my move across the country, unbeknownst to me. She was able to give me amazing guidance on how to get that removed. Once I was able to talk to the collection agency to get that deleted from my record the credit score went up 100+ points!!!! AMAZING!

Fast forward to actually putting offers in on houses, yes myriad houses! This team is second to none! If I asked them to run numbers on this property or that property I knew that those numbers would be waiting in my inbox in a timely manner. They were there to talk to the listing agents to make sure they were representing us as best as possible. This made a difference and I believe that it was one reason the sellers accepted our offer.

They always had kind, supportive words to get us through this crazy Portland market. Even when we were rejected 4 other times they kept telling us that "the right house is out there and you will find it!" As hard as it was to accept the rejection they kept us going.

Now on to the Corona-virus craziness! This team called me multiple times as rates were bouncing all around once the offer was accepted. They gave me all the information I needed to make educated decisions on the best product. Once I decided to lock in they took over and kept us updated throughout the entire process. Even when there were some things that might have delayed our closing they kept in contact and we were able to bring this 11 month adventure to a close (figuratively and literally!!). We met in a large private conference room where Yumi was very well prepared to explain how our refinance would work, showing total costs, total payments, interest and what type of loan would best fit our situation, all without feeling time-pressured. Yumi used a large screen to display the numbers, which made it so much easier to look, talk, and think, again without the pressure. As we narrowed down our best options, Yumi let us know the next steps, timelines and exactly what to expect with no hidden costs or surprises. When the loan application process began, Yumi again was fully available and remained in close contact throughout the entire process, which was much quicker than I was expecting, considering all the refinance activity taking place today. Yumi was 100% committed to exceeding our expectations, and promptly answered any and all questions without leaving us waiting. We were thrilled when our loan closed, and almost at the last minute, we asked for a small change, which Yumi handled without any issue. We were so happy with the rate and terms that we, after careful thought, decided to take a small cash out to cover some home improvements. All together, our initial meeting, subsequent follow ups, application process, and final closing were excellent.
