I took my son in to open an account Monday 4/1/2024 ; a teller asked how what we came in for politely and asked her partner was the system down. I guess he said it was running because then she told us what he needed to open account which included id, proof of address, $100 for a savings and $200 for a checking, and social security card. I checked out so I’m not sure if she asked for birth certificate, but we had everything except the cash. The whole transaction was odd because first of all she was a teller and they don’t typically open accounts and then it’s a bank so why is the system down and is this normal. I forgot to bring money, so l asked a few questions about that and all the answers were no. I said ok, lll go back later or the next day. He asked me to take him today. We’re closer to the one on Lawrence and near Western so we went there instead. It was totally different experience. The teller asked why we were there. Told us where we could sit and a banker would be with us. The banker proceeded to help us. He didn’t ask what we had but eventually said he needed id. That’s all he asked for. He asked us what the ssn was, l told him and then gave him the card because there was a complication. He asked did we have money to deposit but said it wasn’t needed. I said we’ll zelle it when the account is open. Before we could finish my son’s phone died, so we couldn’t set up his online banking. Because of that we couldn’t add money to the account. He didn’t press us or say it was mandatory. It seems like the teller on Lawrence and Sheridan was lazy and it wasn’t even her job to help us. I would prefer to go to the one near Western even with the...
Read moreIn person staff are very friendly. I have been recommending friends to switch to Wintrust since I opened my account. I will not recommend them further and will close my accounts next month. Deposited a $20,000 cashiers check from a major reputable bank IN PERSON on October 24th. Followed up when not released asking why and was informed (with no actual reason given, which was my request) the funds would not be released until Nov 1st. So now in addition to closing my accounts and not depositing the $100K proceeds from closing on my Condo in two weeks, I am gleefully spreading word of my experience in the hopes my review will deter others from joining this bank to make sure others don’t deal with this nonsense. I am going to take a stab at guessing what the response will be here before it is made (if made) and that might even include the explanation as to why this cashiers check was treated like a personal check deposited via mobile phone but absolutely too late and more than likely an excuse to hold customers funds to accrue...
Read moreThe teller at this location who I usually see in person is really great. She is very helpful.
However, if you are out of town and have a major issue it is nearby impossible to get a hold of a banker when you call.
If you call customer service they will tell you that you need to speak to this location. However, they will not take calls or call you back.
I'm not sure if it's the location or Wintrust issue in general but you can't get any customer service help in a timely fashion if you can't physically go in to the exact location.
Id recommend a different bank if you ever have to travel or cant physically go in all the time.
Wintrust has a glitch online recently with transfers but the location has to fix it but you can't reach the location. I will be closing my account...
