I am not unfamiliar with purchasing and repairing of appliances as I am the property manager for 10 homes in North Tacoma.
I dropped off a dishwasher and paid 60$ for a diagnostic. I was told this is the initial cost to look at the unit and anything additional will be for replacement/repair work. I was called and informed that my unit had been tested and nothing seemed to be a problem and that my unit was ready for pick up. Upon pick up, I was informed that I owed an additional "labor cost". Didn't make any sense to me as I paid for diagnostic, which is all they self-admittedly did, and wasn't sure how they rationalized charging "labor" for something that had no "out of scope"/additional work done to it. I expressed my displeasure with the on-site staff who had no coherent explanation as to why I was paying more than our agreed-upon diagnostic rate. He kept saying that they " spent a lot of time testing" and in my mind that is the sellers burden as they sold their ability to do diagnostic for a certain amount. To me it felt sketchy and felt like a half baked business practice.
If they had done any amount of work to the unit, I would have no problem paying for labor. I frankly wouldn't had a problem if they said that diagnostic was $100 from the start. I would've liked to agree on a price for a certain project/assessment and have it cost that same amount when said work was complete.
I also want to mention that the on-site staff have almost no knowledge of these machines and their functions. They were really just salesman with the service team in back of house. I personally like to speak with technicians about mechanical issues so I have a better understanding of tasks performed, and common issues. Aka real knowledge.
Overall, I did not find my visit to be worthwhile or a good investment and frankly left feeling like I was bamboozled. I am not likely to return and would not recommend anyone else go here for...
Read moreWe gave Lakewood appliance a call at the recommendation of a Tacoma community group on Facebook, but other than that we had no experience with this company. Our refrigerator was not cooling properly, but it was cooling periodically, so it was semi-functional. Also, the ice maker had not functioned for a couple of years, so we wanted them to take a look at that as well. When we called they scheduled us for an appointment that was 3 weeks out because our fridge was still working. But they said to call back if the fridge stopped working all together, because they could get us in if there was a cancellation. It did die about a week and a half later. We called back, and they had a technician to our house in two business days (we called them back on a Thursday, and the technician came on Monday). The technician diagnosed the problem, said he would order the part, a new controller, and that they would call us to schedule as soon as the part came in. He gave us a quote, and he said that the ice maker repair would be a separate issue. The part arrived on the day we were told, and the technician was back the day after that. After working on the refrigerator for a while, he showed us that one of the issues with the ice maker had been wires that had been severed, and that he could repair them, and that the refrigerator did not actually need a new controller, but that a relay had been short-circuited. In the end, the repair was done at half the estimated cost, including the repair of the ice maker. Because we have no clue about appliance repair, he could just as easily have sold us the new controller and charged us accordingly, and then come back and taken care of the ice maker, but he didn't, and that's honesty that I really appreciate! I will totally call them in the future if I need repairs done, and feel that they do...
Read moreA complete waste of time. One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I had them look at a dishwasher. The parts were back ordered and unavailable. They couldn’t get a time frame. I was informed in a voicemail . When I returned the call the counter person couldn’t find any information about my repair request. A work order, a part Description, a part number. A reference to me, basically wanted to start over with everything. He Couldn’t have the technician return my call after he called me. Funny the tech tried to call me a couple days earlier. I was met with an attitude . No information about the problem except I should buy a new one. Choices and time frame is not his problem.. I’m thinking his showroom has several dishwashers in several price ranges to choose from, but no attempt was made to show or sell me one. Like he was bothered. Didn’t like or knew what he’s doing., Beneath him to attempt a sale. Surly for lack of knowledge and doing something that was beneath him, I felt he didn’t have a clue to customer service or sales. Possibly an entitled son of an owner or friend., untrained, and uninformed. Resentful because I’m asking for some resemblance of professional help. I was so motivated after attempting to buy from this business I went to Lowell’s and purchased a new dishwasher within minutes. Lowell’s sales person was friendly, knowledgeable, had choices, was trained and professional . Took less time then Lakewood was willing to just to find my missing paperwork. So Lakewood missed the repair, the sales, the installation . Save your time....
