A Hawaiian mom and pop shop located in a plaza where the Ralph’s and La Fitness are at! located in Carson St, serving very local dishes from the islands while adding a few from the Philippines to showcase both sides of their heritage! What we got: First we had the inari poke- these little bean curd pockets of deep fried tofu, rice, topped with spicy mayo and garnished with roe and scallions is a dynamite of all flavors and is honestly my new favorite thing! We also got tofu poke but with crab meat because we love seafood, but of course for all our vegetarian/vegan friends you can ask to customize your poke to your preference! Next the tuna sisig in a sizzling plate is a homage to Filipino cuisine, and as a Filipino myself I loved this dish so much!
They also proudly serve Huli Huli chicken which is Hawaiian chicken barbecue with that pineapple, ginger and soy sauce marinade. Perfectly sweet and refreshing, I think everyone needs to get this!
Lastly we got the crispy spam musubi cos it won’t be a Hawaiian feast without spam!
Service is also fast and everyone is so welcoming and...
Read moreSince we were surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, we were craving Hawaiian food. A few miles inland is Poke Etc. It's located in the Ralphs shopping center on the corner of Cherry Avenue and Carson Street. They have more than just poke, they have plate lunches like kalua pig, lau lau, shoyu chicken, and more.
Kama'aina Plate ($10.95) is a combo plate with kalua pig, lau lau, a scoop of rice with a sprinkle of furikake, and choice of poke. The kalua pig had a good porky flavor and was seasoned properly with just salt. The lau lau was pretty good too with pork, pork fat, butterfish, and steamed in ti leaves. The Limu Ahi Poke was one of the most authentic pokes I've had on the mainland with limu (ogo), green onions, onions, sesame oil, and shoyu. No avocados, no mangos, no pineapples, just da kine simple stuff! Onolicious to da max! The only thing that was missing was a scoop of mac salad. Rating: 4.5/5
We also got a half pound of Limu Tako (octopus) Poke. The tako was sliced thick enough for the flavors to penetrate the meat. Again, just basic and authentic....
Read moreThe food here is legit. I've always had take away food from Poke & More. What I've ordered so far has not been a disappointment. You can always tell when food is loved Because it comes out in the flavors; and theses flavors are spot on.
There's a wide range of fish poke and octopus poke with am even wider range of flavors from the normal spicy mayo to Limu. I have no idea what Limu is, but all I know is that it was great tasting. The chunks of fish are big and the servings are plentiful too so you won't be going hungry anytime soon. Base level are salad and white or brown rice and they come in bowls, larger containers and by the lb. If need be.
Not only do they serve poke, but they serve the Hawaiin flair too. Chicken katsu, teriyaki, spam Musubi and all the other delicious Hawaiin GOODNESS!
One day I might be able to physically go to this place, but for now I'm content that it's brought to me at...
