Products and Pricing Structure: According to the website, Black Fridays buys truckloads of overstocked merchandise, store returns, and discontinued items from major retailers across the country. What it looked like to me was a discount retailer that resells items from AMAZON return pallets. The pricing structure varies by day, aiming to offer deep discounts.
I visited this establishment twice: once on a Wednesday, $1 day, and once on a Friday, $10 day. While both days were chaotic, Friday was particularly overwhelming because they bring out "all the good stuff." On other days, part of the store is taped off, preventing customers from accessing certain bins, which are reserved for Fridays. During the week, shoppers can see a tempting display of new, boxed electronics like Apple AirPods, JBL speakers, and NutriBullets, encouraging them to return on Friday to snag these expensive items for just $10. However, on Fridays, the store feels like a Black Friday frenzy, with shoppers pushing, shoving, and rummaging through bins. Many of the nicely displayed items from earlier in the week are nowhere to be found. The lack of organization and overcrowding make it difficult to navigate, adding to the stress and creating a chaotic, competitive atmosphere.
The Siren: The store uses a siren to signal the release of new merchandise, which has a profound psychological effect. Whether this is intentional on the establishment's part, please understand that hearing a siren often triggers an instinctive response and can evoke a heightened state of alertness and urgency, activating the body's fight-or-flight response. In a retail environment, using a siren can create excitement or urgency, leading shoppers to act quickly or impulsively, similar to the frenzy seen on events like Black Friday. This response is a combination of psychological conditioning that triggers an instinctive rush, making shoppers feel pressured to grab items quickly. This tactic, while intended to create excitement, instead fosters chaos and aggressive behavior among customers, contributing to the disorderly environment. I strongly suggest that this establishment reconsider its use of the siren. They should implement a more effective method for announcing new merchandise that doesn’t contribute to an already chaotic atmosphere.
Customer Service: Although the staff was generally cordial, there were notable issues. The cashier overcharged me by double, and I had to correct her. For shoppers that are purchasing carts full of merchandise, they should be cautious that they're not being overcharged. Additionally, there's a 3% surcharge if you're not paying in cash, which was not disclosed upfront; I only learned about it by asking.
Shopping Experience: The bins at this establishment are filled with random items, frequently still in Amazon packaging, sometimes displaying previous customer addresses. It was also concerning to see inappropriate items like sex toys accessible to children shopping with their parents. I recommend that the store improve its sorting and presentation of merchandise. One suggestion could be to place adult toys behind the counters, similar to how they manage other items already out of children's reach. This adjustment would help ensure a more appropriate and comfortable shopping experience for all customers.
Overall impression: Establishments like this one often target lower-income individuals seeking bargains, capitalizing on their need for affordable products. People were rushing to grab items, showing little courtesy or consideration for others in the process.
While the idea of offering discounted merchandise is appealing, the execution at Black Friday Daily Deals is severely lacking. The chaotic atmosphere, poor organization, and lack of transparency make for an unpleasant shopping experience. This establishment needs significant improvements in customer service, product presentation, and overall shopper safety to truly deliver on its promise of offering Black...
Read moreI found out about this place on Instagram. I went to both locations several times this holiday season looking to get gifts for my family for the holidays. It’s good for lower end miscellaneous items for the home, beauty etc. However at the front of the Lanham store they have a display with “higher end items” that you can just purchase separate from the bins. I made the mistake of buying what I was told was an Apple Watch series 9. I was told it’s authentic and brand new. The manager even walked over as I was looking at the model and told the cashier to give me a new unopened box. He even showed me on the box that the watch matched the description and verified that it was real.
I took it home and it wouldn’t connect to my phone. Then the band broke and the magnetic strip was still stuck in the watch. I took it to the Apple Store last week and was told that it’s not a real watch. I don’t have a problem with some of the other items I got there, but don’t advertise that your items are real and authentic when in fact they’re not. That was a pure waste of $70.
Not to mention that on my last day in there ($1 day) I asked to test a box and was told it wasn’t an option that day. Just to take it home and find out that the item was broken. Sometimes trying to save money is not worth it. I won’t...
Read moreI’ve been here at least 4-5 times. I believe they blindly purchase Amazon returns. I’ve seen an Amazon trailer pull up once before. It’s a cool place. You cannot go with any expectations lol it’s a little chaotic, you have to sort through many bins in hopes of finding something you want. They have a lot of miscellaneous items. Once, I was able to buy brand new Halloween party supplies/decorations (in November) that I will use the following year lol I was not thinking of a Halloween party for my kids until I was able to purchase all of these items for $14. Those items would’ve easily cost me over $100. Today I purchased ver 6 packs of Spider-Man party plates/napkins for my son. I’ll use them as snack plates for him. It’s very random, I enjoy going here out of boredom and curiosity of what I will find that day. I would like to come here on a Friday since that’s their “large ticket items”. I have not purchased anything electronic. Be careful if you do, I’ve read other reviews saying the item didn’t work or it was...
