I visited this place for the first time in early December for a gift for my boyfriend. When I walked in I was greeted immediately and I let the lady know I was looking for solid 14k chains. She directed me to the gold plated and I again told her I wanted to look at the solid 14k chains. She showed me and I picked one out and purchased it. I gave it to my boyfriend for Christmas and he just wanted a longer chain. We went back and picked one out to be ordered, the same lady that sold us the original one said it would be about 1-2 weeks with the holidays. We waited about 4 weeks with no call. I finally called and a they told me they never ordered it, and that now itās on back order until Jan 31st. We got a call on Tuesday that it was ready and went to pick it up yesterday. The same woman from all my previous interactions helped us. She was confused the entire time, had no idea what was going on. And when i asked her why there was a locket on the chain she said āoh you didnāt order that too? everything makes sense nowā then proceeded to be confused for the next 5 min and was unable to do the basic math about the price difference between the original chain and the one i ordered without audibly expressing she was confused. I sternly expressed my concerns about the whole process of getting this chain, and she ignored my concerns and failed to apologize about HER mistake when she never ordered it in the first place. I am so incredibly disappointed with my service considering the price i paid for a luxury good. I will absolutely never be back and I will not be recommending them to anyone...

I had Goldmakers (GM) fabricate a custom engagement ring. The process was long and arduous (We started the process on 2-27-21 and did not complete it until 6-5-21). At one point, there was a physical gap between the metal. An employee commented they usually send those intricate products out for precision fabrication. They never agreed to send it out even after the numerous stalls in-house.
I purchased a .90ct Emerald cut diamond from GM to be set in the ring. As it turns out, the diamond was almost double retail price. You would expect that most of the cost to be in labor on this type of project.
The ring was worn for about a year when our relationship ended. In order to try to recoup something I wanted to return or exchange, the loose emerald cut diamond only. So, the ring was taken to GM to remove the .90ct. I went back into GM to discuss options on the EC diamond. I was told if the diamond was still set they might have been able to do something. But a comment was made by the owner that the ring had been ripped apart (even though it was their jeweler). They were unwilling to even reach out to the diamond dealer. A pre-sale selling point was made that at the very least diamonds hold their value if not become more valuable.
So, that is further proof that they knew the diamond was overpriced, to begin with. It was suggested it be put on eBay. When you've already paid double the retail price, the last thing you want is for eBay to get 15%.
All I wanted was a fair and equitable solution...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just adore Goldmakers. I used to save my money for a certain pair of earrings or necklace when it was at KU and a single mom. Iād hope for that amazing price when I looked at the color coding on the tag. And Iād always find the perfect piece for my mom every year on her bday. Every September and October weād hunt for the perfect piece that my sister and I would split. And it was always loved. Always. Iāve moved away but I come in once a year at least. If someone said to tell them about Lawrence, Iād say⦠in LFK itās KU and Freestate and Goldmakers and the Bottleneck and Munchers and dodgeball and the lake and friends. Yep. (And Burrito King. Iām not ashamed). Thatās how I describe Lawrence.
Thanks for being not only welcoming, but full of unique and beautiful things. For creating them, for procuring themā¦and then they become good memories. I remember these earrings on Momās bdays. I remember really wanting a certain pair and it still being there when I went back a few days later with money in hand. Goldmakers was one way I learned to grab what I want. If you leave and it sells, itās gone.
Multi generational businesses are amazing! What a tight bond. What a beautiful thing. And it shows in how everyone is treated when they come through the door. Mwah! Iāll see you on my next visit East. Much love...
