On Saturday, April 15, my friend Caroline invited me out to dinner with her and her dad. Without hesitation, I agreed. Delicious, free food? always. He decided to take us out to 715. 715 is an Italian and Tuscan restaurant on Mass street. I have never heard of this place before or seen it, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it turned out for the better. The atmosphere, service, and food quality, makes this one of my new favorite restaurants. I won’t be going here often because I am a broke college student and the prices are fairly high, but whenever my parents come in town, I’ll be making sure we eat here. We got to this restaurant around 5:30pm and with our reservation and were quickly seated. The entire atmosphere of this restaurant was very serene and chill. It was a small space, but they used the best of it. There were dark wooden floors and light wooden chairs and tables, with a black counter tops. The walls were a rustic stone, with artwork and paintings hanging from them. At each table and dining space, there were tiny white candles. These candles, along with small light features that hung low from the celling illuminated the room. This lightening was more dim, but you could still see clearly. Behind the bar, stood the open and visible kitchen. This allowed us to see the chefs cooking the food and smell what they were making. The scent of seasoned meat and bread filled the air. The service was remarkable. Our waitress was very nice and prompt. She gave us space to talk, but was always there when we needed her. She would quickly refill my water and always had our table in the corner of her eye, making sure that we could grab her attention. Even the employees who were not specifically serving us, were welcoming. They all were so pleasant and they looked like they truly enjoyed their job. We first ordered appetizers. We shared the meatballs and roasted dates. The meatballs were 8$ and the roasted dates were 9$. The portions were small, but well worth it. The pork meatballs were very flavorful and soft. I thought they were delicious. As well as the roasted dates. I have never had dates before, but I loved them. They were the perfect combination of sweet and savory. I would definitely recommend trying them. As an entrée, I ordered the pan seared salmon. This dish came with parmesan-saffron risotto, fresh herb salad, and fried prosciutto. This was all for 24$. Again, small portions, but it filled me up and I enjoyed it. The salmon tasted fresh and was moist on the inside, while crisp and seasoned on the outside. The risotto was also nice. It was soft and cheesy, but also very flavorful and went well with the salmon. Caroline and her father both ordered the filet mignon. I do not like red meat, so I did not try this dish, but they both immensely enjoyed it. It came with tuscan potatoes, sweet onion, corn puree, and a balsamic glaze over an 8 oz. fillet, all for 38$. Caroline said that the filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly. After eating these meals, Caroline’s father then offered desert. Happily, I ordered the dark chocolate gelato and Caroline and her father, again, both ordered the carrot cake. The gelato was amazing. I have never had gelato before, but my experience here at 715 makes me want to start eating more gelato. It was creamier and richer than regular ice cream. It was cold, but not too cold where it would hurt my teeth. And the dark chocolate chunks that I would find bits of in the two scoops made it even that much better. I have a big sweet tooth, and their dark chocolate gelato was a perfect end of the dinner treat. I also tried their carrot cake and that was also amazing. It was moist and rich, and had the perfect amount of sweet and carrot flavor to it. Eating at this restaurant was an experience. I felt fancy and the food was delicious. I would not eat here all the time, because of the prices and high end scale, but this is now, definitely, my go-to “night out” fancy restaurant. I’ll just have to make sure I go with someone who will pay...

My recent visit to 715 Restaurant on Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, Kansas, was nothing short of exceptional. Located just 40 to 45 minutes from Kansas City, it’s well worth the drive. My wife and I couldn’t stop talking about our experience the entire way home the next morning—it was truly delightful.
While I didn’t photograph every dish we tried, I can wholeheartedly recommend a few standouts. The house-made burrata was creamy and delicious, a perfect start to the meal. We also loved the tuna crudo (pictured), served with crispy chips that added a wonderful texture. Another highlight was the Spanish-inspired grilled octopus, which was perfectly charred and flavorful.
The specialty cocktail list was impressive. I enjoyed a classic margarita, which was expertly balanced, while my wife had a cosmopolitan that she absolutely loved. My margarita packed a punch—it was strong in the best way possible!
The atmosphere at 715 was vibrant, with the restaurant full of lively diners. Despite sitting near the kitchen, the ambiance was never distracting. The space is quaint yet modern, featuring high ceilings, stylish lighting, and a clean, inviting design.
Our server, though I can’t recall her name, was outstanding—friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing.
We couldn’t resist indulging in a variety of dishes. The lollipop lamb chops were a fun, hands-on treat. I picked them up by the bone and enjoyed them just as I would at home. The goat cheese croquettes, which resembled risotto arancini, were another standout. They were served with a delicious truffle honey and mustard sauce, adding a perfect sweet-savory balance.
For dessert, we shared the house-special ginger cake—a delightful surprise. It arrived as a whole loaf, beautifully decorated with cream cheese icing and festive touches. Paired with two rich espressos, it was a fantastic way to conclude our meal.
Parking on Massachusetts Street is convenient, and it’s free after 6 PM, making it easy to enjoy a relaxed evening. I’m already looking forward to my next visit, perhaps before catching a show at Liberty Hall.
If you’re in the area, I highly recommend 715 Restaurant for its outstanding food, creative cocktails, and warm atmosphere. It’s a dining experience you...
Read moreThis place has amazing ambiance and whoever decided on the interior design has great taste. Unfortunately this cannot cover the pretension to infallibility of a fallible establishment.
Upon walking in you can already feel, in comparison to the rest of Kansas, that this place is trying to stand out. Not trying to stand out in cuisine, no, but in class.
Sure, I could give them credit for having an awesome back story and appearing to be of a class that I would associate with in appearance. However, you must ensure you are of the class you are trying to represent before donning its robes.
I had expected much in regards to the culinary experience, judging from the reputation of this place via word of mouth and how they vehemently defend that reputation in appearance.
Unfortunately, you cannot judge a book by its cover nor its reputation among Kansans.
Our shrimp was overcooked and laid upon a massive bed of kale that would rend even the insides of the most devout vegan. The cauliflower soup tasted of sewage. To make matters even worse, their rice pilaf was made with barley and no salt to speak of whatsoever. Thankfully, they refunded the entire meal and all we paid for were our two sodas we had no desire to finish.
Mind you, we would have stayed to finish our sodas but they did not even have the decency to send a manager to apologize. The manager did, however, peek around the corner to give us a scowl before sending the waitress back.
The pretentious will truly have found a place to gather in this establishment, and make no mistake that you are part of anything more than a pretentious collective.
Perhaps I will return one day, dressed in my Sunday best, and they won't immediately offer me a seat at the bar on a strangely empty lunch time as if I were too slovenly to sit with their commoners.
In spite, we left starving and went a few doors down to a fried food place and let everyone know why we were there instead of 715. Everyone had a laugh.
Seems to be the average...
