Warhammer — Local services in Layton

My wife and I went into this store with our guards up having seen the reviews. I don’t know if we just caught the owner, Jared, on a good day, but my wife and I spent the whole ride home wondering what on Earth people are talking about in the reviews?

Jared was immensely passionate about Warhammer. I walked in, and he greated us with a smile. Asked if there was anything particular I was looking for, I stated the name of the unit, and he pointed me in the right direction.

He then, very professionally, gave my wife and I the space to browse and talk amongst ourselves. There were plenty of opportunities for him to interject all the alleged “know-it-all” or “pushy” comments people left in reviews, and not once did he push.

When we asked him a question, he lit up like a Christmas tree and began answering our questions. He gave great advice, walked us through some information for beginners, and even showed us some really cool models.

We he talked about painting, he had this “Bob Ross”-like attitude about towards it.

I’ve been playing Warhammer for almost two years, begging my wife to at least pick up a paint brush with no avail. After spending time in the shop this afternoon, she expressed that she wanted to plan a date to paint.

That’s how contagious this man’s passion is for Warhammer!

He explained the amazing holiday events they host, and he has immense pride for the community he has built. Selection was plentiful, including not just models, but also plenty of paint supplies, books, and Warhammer trinkets (bottle openers, ect.)

Perhaps other reviews caught him on a bad day? I genuinely have no clue. If they did, I will be sure to find out, because I will absolutely continue giving my business to this location and look forward...

I'm going to edit my review after shopping here since covid. It started out nice, and Jared was very helpful. I even gave a five star review after having a good experience.

I started an Age of Sigmar army and had a great time. I decided to start a Warhammer-40-000 army. Every time I went in it was a coin flip how I would be treated. I had a massive order of around $2,0000.00 after it was all said and done. I didn't get a free coin as he was out. No biggie. I come pick it up when it gets there he has free coins, I ask if I can have one and get denied. It's new month so no. Okay, no biggie. The second part of my order arrives after a balance update and I'm a little bummed about it.

I tell Jared about it and get met with, a lecture about Meta chasing. I was able to return the redundant pieces that were balanced just recently but that was because I called the customer service line, and they helped me a year later. Jared was cool on the return. He was extremely nice. I'm lowering this to three stars because honestly, it really is an inconsistent experience. I love to support my local stores, but I think twice...

Went in there for my birthday as I had decided to finally pull the trigger and buy everything I needed to get started. Was greeted friendly enough but it all went downhill from there. The guy working was argumentative, rude, and made the entire interaction extremely awkward.

Please do yourself a favor and read the other one star reviews. They put into words exactly how my visit was. Also notice how many "thumbs up" the one star reviews have vs the 5 star reviews. I should have done this before going in. This guy needs to go for this store to succeed. The final straw for me was being told to not touch a product on the shelf as I was reaching for it to BUY IT.

I had come in ready and willing to drop big money getting into the hobby but instead left with nothing. Going forward I'll just head to a LGS or to the location in South Jordan. Imagine being willing to drive 45 minutes in the opposite direction for the same products. That's how off putting this dude was.
