This place use to be something else. You could actually have three foods to your meal. Id be interested to find out whether the owners (still the owners) actually know about what’s going on and or why they let this place go to what it’s at.

Now that the owners who had been running it for 8+ years.. apparently “retired and took a break” have their extended family running the store. With a boy at the front who speaks no English.

Just know.. you’re ordering an entire box of whatever you select. Not a main dish and two sides. So when your bill comes out to be 34 bucks for coconut shrimp, chow Mein and spicy teriyaki, with three huge box fulls.. don’t be surprised.

5+ years ago… I use to come to this place 3 or 4 times a week. The father who was the main chef and only chef.. prepared a main dish with two sides. AND had everything ready at the front for his wife (co owner) to give samples and selection. who also picked up the phone and took outside orders at the same time.

These new clowns running the show have the entire food selection at the front completely empty.

The chef doesn’t know what he’s doing. And the boy at the front who isn’t very clear.. in any way.. shouldn’t be handed the position to run the front of the store when most of the customer base SPEAKS ENGLISH.

Different people running the store. Different business model:/

Response/edit:

oh I have the right place. Can’t remember which main and two sides I ordered. But that’s the point. You either pay for the entire box or nothing. One main and two sides coming out to 36 bucks was a shocker.. when the kid brought out 3 boxes. This place sure does have different owners. And I know the current owners are literal family to the previous owners the young boy at the front. And the last ones ran it better.

But you’re also still in business 4+ years after the ownership transition so we’ll see if the new owners truly are better than the previous!

Just so we’re clear… I’m talking about the 5 foot nothing bent over old lady who got it done all day everyday, At the time her daughter who speaks great English, and the very skinny husband with the mustache who was in the back all day everyday. That place under those owners was memorable, joyful AAAAANNNNNDDDD...

I have eaten a LOT of Chinese food over the years, and it's always the same. You know if you get Orange Chicken at one place, it will taste like all the rest usually. This place isn't like that. The Orange Chicken has garlic in it, which makes for a very nice combination. The rice noodles are my most favorite thing, and I could eat them every day. The owners are very nice people, and I enjoy eating there. I've eaten inside, and it's clean. I mostly get take out, which is always fast and extremely hot and made to order. The food isn't deep fried like a lot of Chinese restaurants have. It makes it so much juicier and tasty. They used to deliver, which I loved, but now that they don't deliver, I think I buy it more often. I'm not sure why that is. It's close to my house, which is a plus. I could eat at this place every day for lunch or dinner. The House Wonton soup is the best soup we have ever had. We get 2 large orders so my husband can take some to work the next day for lunch. I rarely write reviews for restaurants unless they really sucked, but it was about time after years of eating here that I wrote a review and a very good one at that. You won't be...

Terrible. So I was here 2 days ago. I work for a delivery company called doordash and they deliver the food . I was there to pick up my food . I would suggest them to change the service. I go to the restaurant and for service we have to ring the bell. I rang bell for service and one fine young lady comes out from the kitchen and yell at me and ask me are you doordash and I tell her yes. She couldn't hear anything because she was not out from the kitchen . She was in between the door . She screams one more time and I tell her the same thing that yes I'm doordash. Again the same thing goes so after that she goes back to kitchen without helping me out . I waited for couple of minutes and then here she is . She asks me the same question agian "Are you ordering or are you from doordash ?" I tell her the same answer again and then she teaches me that I was supposed to speak really loud . I just pick up my order without saying anything. I never had food from that restaurant so I'm not complaining about food . Overall my experience was really terrible. Even though I work for doordash but I'm never going there agian not even to pick...

Update: I gave the new owners a second try and ordered a family dealit was a very good deal and the whole family enjoyed it. Still a little overpriced to what the old owners did. Second review: I'm so sad! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants! New owners completely changed the menu and recipes. No more $5 Rice Bowl, or 1 and 2 item specials. There is now only $9-10 a la carte and $7 lunch specials. Over priced for what you get. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm a regular at the Chinese Kitchen. Food here is good. Most of the items are made to order. Excellent value for the quality and quantity. A $5 rice bowl that is fresh and decent-sized... Great deal. There is better Chinese around, but not at this price! Don't let the owner/operator turn you off to this place. She is always short and rude. Once you get to know her she is funny and kind. She just doesn't offer any pleasantries that many of us are used to ;). They prefer you to call ahead... so the order can be ready by the time you arrive. My favorites are the Jalapeno Chicken and the BBQ Chicken or Pork.

This is my new favorite Chinese place in Layton. The food is really good and tasty. If you want good Chinese, you can't go wrong with this place. I only give it 4, as right now it is much better to get take out not dine in. You can dine in but, I believe in order to be more health conscious, they only server cans of soda and bottled water. So if you only wanted a glass of water, you will be charged for it as they only have the bottles. In the picture is when I got orange chicken. The flavor was really good and they even added a decorative carrot that looks like a butterfly, as seen in the picture. Beyond that there isn't much negative to say. The food is, as I said, the best of the Chinese restaurants I've tried in Layton so far, and all their food that I've tried has been delicious. Their prices are reasonable and the service is friendly.

This is a new owner since about December of 2021 or January 2022. A great improvement in food taste and service. Very good Chinese food!! Finally found a consistently delicious Chinese food. All others have lacked flavor, were overcooked and too expensive for what you got. It's conveniently next to my hair salon which is how I came to try it under the new ownership. The girls at the salon highly recommended it so I gave it another shot. So happy I did! This restaurant has made some flavorful favorites that I go back to each time. Szechuan chicken (extra spicy!), veggie lo mein, chicken fried rice...egg rolls...soo good! Family-owned business that has good hours to come grab lunch or dinner up until 8p M-Sat.
