Definitely a cool place with a lot of vintage or older instruments. They had a really nice older Yamaha classical guitar that was in great playing condition and a really good. It was super awesome to walk in and see that the guitars were actively being maintenance and it was really cool speaking with their associates talking about different types of guitars and getting into our different experiences with different products and whatnot. I always love a awesome conversation with associates about different gear and their experiences because I'm always fascinated by how variational and independent experiences are. One guy there was showing me his personal build of a guitar with an aluminum neck and it really was an awesome instrument and he was very kind enough to let me play it and it definitely played super well. All in all the associates here are super kind and the inventory is well maintained.
The only two things that I would say or maybe not the absolute best but certainly not a downside completely. One of the classical guitars was strung in a manner that caused excessive pressure on the nut because it was wrapped backwards around the tuning machines. I did go ahead and take the time to swap it around on that particular instrument as sometimes I always find it's easier to fix those things but while doing so I was super impressed with the fact that all the guitars clearly had had fresh strings put on them which was a good sign regardless of the fact that this may have been overlooked. But I don't necessarily think it's a great thing if somebody strings something in reverse but doesn't take the time to address it. I can't say for sure that this store even strong it but I can say that whatever the case it wasn't addressed.
The only other thing is they from what I could tell only dealt with string Joy for string brand. String Joy is actually really great strings and I've personally had fantastic experiences out of them but they are a lot pricier than the average string and thus it may not be the best place to go pick up strings if you are a beginner just looking to get some basic strings so that you have new ones on your instrument. I was unable to see on the shelf any nylon strings in stock and I honestly didn't ask but I figured they're probably something along the lines of la Bella considering that all the nylon strings in the building had ball end strings. Typically those are la Bella or Ernie Ball nylon strings which are not honestly that great in the world of nylon. But I understand it's also not the market for high-end nylon strings per se.
Overall my experience at the store today was fantastic and I'll definitely be returning and bringing them my business. I also love the fact that they stocked seven string string Joy sets although they were slightly backordered. Seven strings and nylon strings are my two favorite worlds of guitar and they're often times overlooked by most shops but it appears that the seven string side of things was not overlooked and that made me...

I live 130 miles away. But I swing by every chance I get. I love the East Nashville shops, but even when I go there, I take the time to drive a little ways further to Lebanon.
Jack’s has classic “good stuff”: Gibson, Fender, etc. but also seriously interesting guitars.
They are THE “Nashville rubber bridge” people. Those are so many artists’ secret sauce these days. And a baritone rubber bridge is divine to me.
But people sometimes sleep on their selection of Airline, Kay, Teisco, Matsumoku and Guyatone white label, etc. One of the best selections of 60s catalog and MIJ guitars I’ve ever even heard of. Best I’ve ever seen by far.
They have truly creative “partscaster” builds too. I’m so bored by these by nature. But Jack’s are creative enough you want to pick them up.
I’ve bought, sold, and traded with them. Never had to haggle like normal. I seriously hate that. A fair deal right off the bat. I think they’re too punk rock to be sleazy.
And the place has such a comfortable vibe. You can grab a guitar and plug it into a headphone amp (comfy to me) or a real one. You can sit on a couch and chill. Talk guitars, gear, or whatever. Listen to great tunes. Stuff I love, stuff I’ve never heard. Meet cool people who are into guitars or buying their first.
I started out coming in twice with 0 budget and was clear I was “just looking.” Didn’t matter. They’ll talk, they’ll leave you alone. Whatever you’re feeling. I’ve just bought a random framed 80s magazine ad for like $5 because it would amuse my friend.
And every person that works there is cool. It’s not like some places where the owner not being there is a drop in experience. I think Jack and his wife (massive shame felt for not remembering her name, so nice) draw in amazing folks.
My 11yo daughter is still inspired by Kass who worked there before moving. But talk to them. They know their sh.
I’ll restate, I live 130 miles away outside Memphis, but Jacks’s...
Read moreI've been shopping at Jack's for a few months now after I saw a few things they had on Reverb. I bought a few parts and strings and miscellaneous gear then, and I kinda dug the vibe from the listings and went directly to the website later. Holy Crow, what a find! They've got more cool stuff and hard to find items and really bitchin' old and new guitars ya don't run across every day. And the staff is top notch, everyone with whom I've spoken with or communicated with online has never thrown me a curve, straight shootin' musically knowledgeable folks that have answered my questions honestly. That is when I know I'm dealing with a competent shop. I have since purchased two guitars from here, one of which is an absolute show stopper on stage. Both are wonderful, but the 1958 anniversary reissue Epiphone Crestwood is perfect for my dive back into surf jams and old western yee haw kiss yer horse music. I could go to a plethora of guitar emporiums around my area but after living and playing around here 40 years I have almost outkicked the coverage locally. Great shop, better people, I'll be coming back. Thank you Jack and crew for all you support...
