I buy a very large amount of material from surplus city, In Indianapolis. I work right in the heart of Louisville, KY. So you know the pricing is fair, when, for about 80% of my jobs, that need equipment - it involves me going to Indy. Buying from them, I can offer things, that my competitors only dream of. Say a homeowner has an existing Trane, or say a Carrier unit, and you go to give them an estimate - and all they seem to do, is brag about how that brand, lasted 27 years. Well good luck getting your hands on one of those brands, if your not a dealer. (Trust me, I was a carrier dealer for 11 years). With Surplus city, odds are, you can probably build a system with the brand you want, or at least, you can explain to your customer, you can offer x brand, and it is 100% identical to the other - minus the name tag sticker. Then, the best thing they help you with: your getting brand name, new in the box equipment for - from my experience- about 30-50% off what I pay, as a contractor, set up for fair equipment pricing, from a few local HVAC distributors!! (Thats why I drive 2 hours, 1 way, for about every job I get).
And lastly, your looking at inventory on their website, and the quantity is live. You won't order something, and find out it sold 20 min. ago. And the few units they have that are scratch & dent items, the damage is absolutely marked clearly, and the pictures expose it, so that you can make a good decision, and you will not be surprised when you see the issue. I allways order through a man named Tim, and he wont let me mess up, if say you accidentally order a a-coil that doesn't fit the furnace your getting - tim will be like - whoa buddy - are you sure? Or he will even say, you know, you have to have a coil with a txv for that 2-stage system, or hey, don't you need a heat-pump thermostat, not a heat/cool with that?
Omg, I've written a novel, and I think Surplus City owes me a discount!! or better yet, some $$ sent to say: my cash app card NOW!! ($shaneyonts). Well thats not gonna happen, but hope this helps someone consider buying from them, sometimes I wish there inventory was bigger. At the moment, they don't have hardly any upflow gas furnaces, and heat pumps are very hard to get, in the size you may need. Just be careful when ordering, talk to Tim, and make sure your choosing a single-phase electric unit, and that the equipment itself, is at the indy location, and not in Austin, Texas- another place they have opened recently it looks like. Ok, end of novel - thanks for reading, Shane Yonts, Owner, Custom Heating, Cooling...

Installing your own Air Conditioner is illegal without an EPA 608 certification. Local codes and permitting will also apply.
Surplus city sells scratch and dent, old new stock (last years models), and overstock equipment. It is possible you purchase a unit with a mechanical issue due to damage. They make a solid attempt at informing you of anything wrong with the equipment if its visible, but they don't know everything. Do your research first, they have a good selection of rotating stock. They are fair and have good prices.
Please hire someone from the trade to install it. An improperly sized unit can cost you more than you would save here. Also do your research on who you have install the equipment. Carbon monoxide is fatal and refrigerant is expensive and damaging to the environment so you don't want these systems leaking. There are a lot of fly by night companies and shade tree mechanics that will scam you. Hire someone you know, someone you trust or at least someone with good references.
With all of that being said, I have bought from Surplus city, they are a reputable dealer and I would buy...
Read moreThis company is a scam and does not stand behind their products or warranty. I purchased a 2.5 ton condenser and coil. The dock company never called me when it arrived, and when I finally picked it up, the unit came in a sealed, non-transparent box with no exterior damage. When I opened it before installation, the coil was bent. After installation, the system wouldn’t pull down to 500 microns, and a nitrogen test confirmed the coil was leaking.
I contacted the company the SAME DAY of installation, and their response was that I should have reported it at pickup — which is impossible since the damage was concealed inside the box. Their so-called “warranty” is worthless, and their customer service is nothing more than a way to push responsibility back on the customer.
Because of their negligence, my company took a total financial loss. We had to buy another new unit from a local vendor and was installed with no problem. I will be reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau and warning other contractors to stay away. Save yourself the money and frustration — buy from a reputable...
