It's a great place for anyone to shop for deals on used items and clothes. People who are on low income can receive a voucher to shop for clothes once every 60 days. You can receive a voucher for a winter coat for each family member every winter. The Help Center helps fight hunger by providing a food box to those who qualify. Sometimes they help people fill prescriptions for antibiotics when they don't have insurance or money. They post job listings so that people can find a job to improve their lives. Everyone is so friendly and helpful doing everything they can to ease the burden of life for the needy. Yes, you have to apply for food stamps before they will give you a food box but that is only the first time. They want to make sure you are getting every assistance available. After that you can come back for food boxes again. I don't know how often because I don't ask often. But it has to be after your stamps are gone, a certain amount days. You can call and ask.
I have only seen improvement on the condition of the store. I have to use a wheelchair to get around and the wedding dresses used to be in the way do I had to run over the bottom of several of them to get past. Now they been moved to the opposite side of the room out of the way and I have no trouble being able to get through to shop. Every garment I have ever received on my voucher has been clean, some were obviously just dry cleaned with no wrinkles even. Nothing smelled bad either. I have always had a pleasant shopping experience. In February when I was recovering from an angiogram, angioplasty and stent placement followed by pneumonia I wanted to shop for a birthday gift for my husband. I barely started before I realized I didn't have the strength. I managed to get to the counter where a wonderful lady sat me in a chair and shopped for me. She brought things to me for my inspection and searched until we had found the limit for him then shop for clothes for me as well. I used to donate to this place all of the time anything I didn’t need would go to this place because I had heard they help the community in anyway they can so I automatically thought they must have amazing staff etc when I came in because “I” was in need of help not only was I turned away which is fine because I didn’t donate to get help I donated to help others but went in with the hopes to have help myself at the time because I had fractured 3 vertebrae in my spine and was not able to work for 4 months I’m a single mom of 3 the fathers aren’t in my children’s lives so I depend on myself to clothe house and feed myself and my kids! Anyway I came to them for any type of help when I had this happen to me and not only was I turned away they looked at me with disgust said no and didn’t suggest any other place for me to try to go to. I have not donated anything to them ever since I give to friends from now on or I post on fb so someone can pick it up for free if they need it. My recommendation to this place treat people better!!! I’ve ever heard of charging separate bills for water and sewer, but I was 2 wks behind of sewer bill and was told I was getting cut off because bill was 13 days past due-cut throat, so friend told me to go to help center. I did but was told by help center they would not pay reconnect fee. They would pay a $150 past due electric bill but not my $72.00 water bill with $50 reconnect fee. So waste of gas and time because water was shut off for 2 days before I could pay it, so 2 days after they wouldn’t help me keep my water on I came back at 3:07pm with my electric bill to ask for assistance and was told I would have to come back because they close the bill pay part at 3pm and they won’t make exception for anyone for any reason.
