I was there in '93 with the 2AD. We got our butts worked in the field little time to have fun on 12th street Lake Charles. What was not so much fun was helping the 2AD move to Hood and then staying behind to clean. In 2004 I had the opportunity to hang out with the 29ID for training, was actually impressed with how well they tore us up. Disappointed though when you get killed and you can't stay dead for 24 hours like they said, did write a good obit for my war hero buddy though. Overall Fort ( whatever name you choose) can be good or horrible. If you let stuff come to you or if you make stuff happen. (Yes I know they changed the name but it'll always be Polk to me.) My father went through Basic here in '65, he called it "Ft. Read moreThere are showers provided (both stalls and open bay), DFAC has an unlimited amount of MRE's it seems (even the 24 hour huge pack), and there are a couple of acres of forest to make those walks with fuel cans scenic.
