Grand Traverse Distillery Tasting Room — Local services in Leland Township

We have been going to the Grand Traverse Distillery tasting room in Leland since we first started visiting the area in 2019. This is a staple on each of our summer vacations here and we have had a five star experience every single time! They hire only the best people we’ve noticed (you won’t consistently find that at all wineries/distilleries in the area) and they make it a fun and memorable experience. Each time we have tried something new and honestly haven’t been to any other distillery that carries such a variety that is actually across the board GOOD quality. This was our fourth or fifth summer going and this go round, Mike recommended we try out the distillery tour in Traverse City (which we did) and it made us love the company and their product ever MORE which we didn’t think was possible! Everyone charges for tastings, so be prepared for that wherever you go. The prices are different typically based on what people tend to do more of - i.e. if the tastings are under $15, it's because the product is THAT GOOD and people tend to buy more than taste. If tastings are more than $15 it's more likely that's where they get their business from versus purchasing one or more bottles (for POS/KPI purposes, 2+ is key for sales). GTD makes some really good whiskey/bourbon. The staff members at this location seem knowledgeable, but I was a bit unsure with my last visit, because while I was just there to see their options for a wedding gift, I felt pressured to try/buy, so it just made me a little uneasy and I didn't want to 'no,' instead, I asked what time they were open until and said, 'thank you.' Grand Traverse Distillery’s Leland tasting room is a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys high-quality, small-batch spirits. Their grain-to-bottle approach shines through in every pour—from the smooth True North Vodka to the bold and spicy Ole George Rye. I especially enjoyed the Cherry Vodka and the Chipotle Vodka—each unique, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care.

The tasting experience was relaxed and welcoming. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations without rushing us. You can tell they’re passionate about the products and the distilling process. The tasting flight was well-curated and a great value.

This is the kind of place where you end up discovering something new and leaving with a bottle—or two. A must-stop for spirit lovers...
