Ordered a 2 tier cake (8" and 6") for my kids' birthday in a design that had already been done by Cake Niche. The cake looked fantastic, just like the picture but the taste was a total fail. We picked the cake up on the day before the event. There were no serving instructions provided. We served the cake maybe 30 minutes after taking it out of the fridge. The cake part had no moisture and the strawberries and cream filling was rock hard. After the cake had been outside for about 2 hours, the texture improved but the taste was still bad. The cake part tasted very basic and eggy. The frosting was bitter and totally inedible. I was embarrassed to have served this cake to my guests. If you're looking solely for an Insta worthy cake and don't care about taste, go ahead and order from here.
Update in response to owner: I stored the cake in a fridge in which I have stored and served several cakes. None of them behaved the way your cake did. Last year, we had a lot of cake leftover from my child's birthday, which we stored in the freezer and defrosted in microwave before eating. It still tasted great. I find it hard to believe, that your cake began to taste bad after being improperly stored. Even if I were to agree that cake somehow begins to taste bad after being improperly stored for 1 day, does frosting begin to...
Read moreI would make treks to West Boylston (more than an hour's drive from my current location) for my special occasion cakes. Now that I am super busy with work I decided to browse local bakeries and I chanced upon Cake Niche in Lexington MA. This amazing masterpiece was made with a week's notice for my kidsâ joint birthday party where Mirette outdid all my expectations. I thought with the amount of fondant used the cake would not taste as great as it looked but boy was I pleasantly surprised. All of the cake was gone in an hour; yes gone ..with people taking thirds and fourths. I have now found my new "Niche" for special occasion cakes.
And special mention of customer service- she takes the time to know what you want and makes sure she understands the design. There is a little story to me picking the cake. It was the same day as the Lexington town fair for which all the street next to the bakery were closed for the event. My friend and I had to walk almost 7-8mins to get to the store. When Mirette heard that we would be carrying the cake (which was quite heavy being for 50people) she instantly proceeded to wrap the top in cellophane and made it as easy as possible. She even gave us a drink carrier to carry our cold coffees. I will always...
Read moreStopped by to grab a last-minute cake for my friendâs birthday. Without placing an order in advance, I was left with two fridge options: Chocolate Ganache and Tiramisu. While I had my sights set on their signature Black Forest, the owner mentioned it wouldnât be ready until the end of the day. It was nice to know same-day options exist, but I ultimately went with the Tiramisu.
The Tiramisu was solid. With ladyfingers wrapped around the sides, it had a denser feel than a traditional tiramisu, but the flavors were on point. The cream wasnât too heavy, the coffee notes were gentle, and the bottom stayed unsoggy. Most importantly, my friend liked it.
Also tried a Mango Cup and a mini cheesecake while I was there, but neither left much of an impression. Not the kind of store I would drop by for small desserts, but the cakes are worth...
