Buyer beware. I had bought a scanner for working on cars here but it was the wrong scanner. I returned the scanner or at least attempted to return the scanner within two weeks. I’ve always known that the return policy was 90 days rarely did I ever return anything but this time this item I did not need I needed something much more expensive, and so I needed to return it. They charged me a 20% restocking fee and told me it says that on my receipt. When I looked at my receipt which was on my email there was a little Asterix explaining the return policy on that particular item. I don’t think everybody read the fine print on the receipts that they receive. They never told me this when I purchased the item. Otherwise I would’ve not of purchased it. What made insult to injury was the store manager Tony was super rude about it, and was saying things quietly to the cashier that had undertones like he was talking about me behind my back right in front of my face. I worked in retail for a long time and his attitude and the attitude of the cashier Was beyond deplorable. What you save at Harbor freight you losing customer service and their bogus return policy on certain items. I think it was completely wrong. I am a and have been a customer of theirs for years and years and over a $19 restocking fee. They will lose my business for a long time. I bought a non electrode welding machine, my worker said it's the wrong one, returned 2 days later in unopened, new condition, they charged me 20% restocking fee and said nothing about that. Their policy stays: "the restocking fee will be waived if any of these conditions are met - item is unopened and in new condition. 2 weeks later came to purchase other stuff and asked to talk with the manager about this issue and requested a refund for $34. I spoke with store manager Amanda, spent about an hour and she said she is not able to issue a refund because she was not present at the return process and said to call their customer service number. I called them and spent another hour and half and they said they can't give me a refund because they can't override store transactions and suggested to return back to the store and ask them for a resolution. Unbelievably!!! Amanda is a very unprofessional manager, I would never hire her for this position, but probably for Harbor Freight Tools store this is normal practice. The representative I spoke with informed me that the item was not in stock. However, when I contacted a different store location, the gentleman I spoke with stated that there were three units available at the Melrose Park store. When I called back, the same representative again (with an attitude) stated that there were three units, but they were not in stock because they were on a truck. I found this explanation to be inconsistent with previous experiences with the store. A third store representative agreed with me saying “If the items were on a truck, they would not be listed in the system. It is possible that one unit may have been a floor model, and the other two would have been on a shelf.” Although it was near closing time, I was not requesting any special assistance, merely confirmation of the item's availability.
