Ended our celebration of Italian Heritage Month with a trip to Casa Italia, located in Stone Park, IL. The Casa is the center of preservation and promotion of Italian American culture in the Chicagoland area. It houses the famous replica of St. Peter's Basilica, crafted by a father and son team of master craftsmen who created reproductions of some of the world's more iconic structures, including the Art Institute, Union Station, and the Auditorium Theater. Painstakingly accurate, it took 1 year just for measurements and 5 years of labor at 14 hours a day to complete. The model was blessed by Pope Pius XII.
