TL;DR - Wonderful, IF you have little to no experience or desire for any "thrill" during it.
To open, all of the employees (both office staff and guides) we dealt with were amicable, the helmets and clothing were in great condition, and the snowmobiles were in solid shape and were relatively new. We came with a group of 4 people, all of whom had some experience with snowmobiles and were drawn in by the third line of the SledVentures site, "We offer guided snowmobile tours, suited for every ability - from the beginner to the expert.". We found this to be, unfortunately, not true.
At both sign-up and orientation, we informed them of our group's experience and figured this would play into the decision of the three guides on how to go out with our group of 13 riders. From here we had two issues that turned the day into a major letdown, the pace of the group and the pace of individuals within the group. At no point did the guides try to split the group up by ability or even attempt to organize us in some form of order that would allow the more experienced riders a better experience. For the first half of the ride, we were stuck behind a woman who got scared at every uphill/corner and would come off the throttle and chug along around 10-12mph. Not only was this infuriating, but also dangerous as she would slam on the brakes while on open trail. The guide was right behind us and could see all of this, as well as read our body language of frustration. Later on, we were stuck behind a sled with two riders and their sled was having trouble keeping up pace.
I understand that these trails have speed limits but I would say our average speed for the trip was 15-18mph and our top speed maxed out around 25mph. We are not that experienced, and we certainly aren't speed demons, but we were downright BORED. At no point did we feel fulfilled or challenged by the ride. The sleds also have some form of restrictors on them and, even after "turning them up", were extremely sluggish and not responsive. I get it, they don't want people to hurt themselves, but they advertised tours for every ability, and someone with experience will easily be underwhelmed at the power the sleds put out.
Honestly, if this was advertised as a "Sightseeing" tour on snowmobiles and was $75, then I would have nothing to complain about. Seeing as it cost close to $175 and advertised for all abilities, it ended up just being a major bummer and felt like a...
Read moreMy family of 10 reserved the beginner 1 hour tour because we had a wide range of experienced and inexperienced riders, including kids. Our group got there. I walked in ahead of everyone and the owner couldnt look up from his phone long enough to welcome me or even let me know I was in the right spot! He asked if I had a reservation, I responded yes, then he went back to his phone. (First red flag) We were ready by 345, our reservation time, and another group of 7 were part of our tour as well. They were late getting ready and gear on. We finally get out with our 2 guides. 1 single rider of ours was having hard time. Tour guides seemed to be getting impatient with her. So we are finally told to break off to give everyone a chance to experience the snowmobiles. Trail was ok. Same trail no matter the experience level, which is a little disheartening. We get back to the shop and 3 from our group still out on the trail. Me, my hubs, and brother in law try and speak with the owner about how unimpressed we were with our tour. His first response was...."I could've told you, no one that comes off that sample tour never has a good time". Wooow, so he admitted the product is crappy. So after him blaming us about all of our other concerns, he raised his voice and gave me an attitude telling me "first rule of snowmobiling never leave your group!" Then my hubs stepped in and put the guy in his place. Needless to say that's not how to run a business. The tour guides and the woman working in the office were great, listened to our concerns and didn't try to blame us and took more ownership of the place of business more than the owner! I feel bad for the employees working for tips because the owner is the reason our group of 10 didn't leave a tip. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything! Also, our group shouldn't have had another group of 7 at the same time. My best advice is the employees should open their own spot because they seem to be the only thing keeping this crappy owner...
Read moreProfessional all the way. New sleds, all newer equipment provided (helmets gloves boots pants jackets) with a good selection. The sign in and waiver process was smooth and easy with the online forms. They run a little test with the group at first to make sure you are competent enough (its not hard). The tour itself was an incredible experience for someone who has only ridden a couple times, the views were amazing and we took a couple breaks to regroup, take in views, pictures, and socialize. I brought my Mom (58) as a Christmas gift and she was nervous as hell but loved it at the end (she drove her own). The sleds are max speed limited (Around 20 mph i think, this was the intermediate skill tour ) but they didn't lack power. The guides were incredible, paying close attention to every rider. There were 3 guides for 9 sleds which I thought was a good ratio. The staff even went as far as to take pictures for us, and all the guides asked if we enjoyed the ride afterwards on a personal basis. Can't recommend this company enough, worth every penny. First time customer I will definitely come back!
And no I was not compensated for this review like some reviews you...
