Disappointingly...disappointed. I had previously written a good review on Wigwam and now that has, unfortunately, changed. I came here with my buddy almost a month ago. I am now writing this current review as I re-visited Wigwam 2 days ago with my father-in-law, his friend Gary, and my buddy.
A month ago I was very impressed with the Wigwam golf. Something changed. Apparently, not for the better. A month ago I was so impressed that I had to get my father-in-law, his friend, my friend, and myself out to Wigwam as I wanted them to also enjoy Wigwam as I did. Not so much this time...
First, we get to the bag drop as the actual parking lot is across the street and is more convenient to drop off a foursome and golf bags closer to the pro shop. No attendant was there when we pulled up as the actual golf cart area and bag drop are separated by an outdoor hallway, but still visible. My friend and I unload all the bags onto the bag rack and then all 4 of us change into our golf shoes, waited...and still no one showed. I told my friend to find someone and I would go park the car. Everyone was checked in when I got to the pro shop. I check in and go to the golf carts. The golf carts were all lined up and 'ready'. I hop in mine and find, no joke, two beer bottle caps in cubby hole, empty bag of chips, AND a half drunk water bottle IN the ice chest...with just melted ice. I don't say anything. I throw away the half water bottle and dump the water out and go find another golf cart that has actual ice in the ice chest. I pick a cart two rows away and in back, not kidding, this ice chest had no ice, a used cooling towel, and two empty water bottles inside! These golf-carts were all lined up AND 'READY' for play?! Thankfully, my f-i-l's cart only had NO ice in his :-/. 3 attendants outside so I have no idea who was being lazy, but I kindly let one of them know and he actually panicked and profusely apologized. Who knows how many other un-clean carts were around as our carts were on the outside row of @20 golf-carts 'ready' for play.
As we are driving across the canal to the driving range my buddy casually mentions "It was cool of the pro shop to give us $25 vouchers to use for next time." Wait...what?? "I never got one. When did you get yours?" "When I payed in the pro shop" my friend said. I ask my f-i-l, and his friend. Apparently, my f-i-l got one, but me and Gary did not. At this point I am ticked AFTER the whole unclean golf carts. I tell the group to hit some range balls and I go back to the pro shop to get a $25 voucher for myself and Gary. Ok, let us put that behind and enjoy a nice round of golf. They have a water cooler on the driving range with cone cups...the water heavily tasted like the plastic of the water cooler. Little did I know that it was a precursor to the condition of the golf course.
Ready to golf on the first tee of the Gold course. The tee-boxes were un-mowed. The grass was over an inch up the side of the tee-markers on certain holes. The 7th tee-box was not even an actual tee box, but a patch of rough with tee-markers in the ground! It had been 3 days since the last monsoon. Did Wigwam give the entire grounds crew an entire weeks vacation?? The fairways were un-mowed. The rough was extremely thick...it was un-mowed. The greens looked like they had been mowed maybe the day before....maybe as they were very slow and crispy. The entire golf course looked so unkept. Remodeling the bunkers on the Heritage course last time I was here and they were still remodeling them 3-4 weeks later. Maybe why they were giving $25 vouchers?? After the round we all had solemn in our moods and me apologizing for not picking a better course. At least we had a good meal after, but not at Wigwam.
Did Wigwam get new management or a different grounds crew...or both since I was here last @month ago?? If so, apparently they now care more about the dollar than the customers who give them the dollars. I SHOULD give Wigwam only 1-star after this really bad experience, but I try to give benefit of the doubt, but...
Read moreOur stay would’ve no doubt been 5 stars up until we decided to stay one more night...we enjoyed our honeymoon stay so much that we wanted to stay another night and enjoy all the amenities that the wigwam had to offer. I grew up in Arizona and before I was deployed I had even worked in reds steakhouse as a line cook, I have always recommended this resort to anyone who was looking for a great getaway location...I will no longer be doing so nor will I ever stay here again. My wife and I had invited my cousin and his wife to enjoy the pool with us on our last day in Arizona. immediately after entering into the pool area we saw many open cabanas and open seating some marked for reservations and some that weren’t so we placed our towels and bag in an unmarked cabana and was rudely told by a young gentleman “ these are only for paying guests please move to the free sections” and walked away confused at what was free at this point we moved our belongings to the chairs directly in front we then were given foul looks and was starred at by the gentleman who was now shaking his head as if we didn’t belong or was doing something wrong he asked another employee who was Hispanic to ask us to move again still no offer if we want to purchase the cabana, no offer of menus, nor water. We once again removed our belongings and continued further down where we were never asked if we needed anything just continued to be starred at and looked at in digust by the young white gentleman who at this point switched sides and no longer helped our side of the pool. We are tattooed Hispanics who are well mannered and bothered no one and followed all rules without any conflict...I am extremely disappointed at how we were received and the attitudes of these two gentleman were extremely unprofessional which is why this resort will no longer receive my business nor the countless referrals that I have sent their way... I have never felt profiled here in all of my stays until now. My wife had even called to explain the situation to a supervisor who assured us that this wasn’t the case and would hear back from them later that day...with us going on day 2 and still no word from any management, we are now writing this. It’s a shame that this resort has become no different then the rest...
Read moreThis resort is a hidden gem. We came to the spa a few weeks ago and wanted to try out the hotel and restaurants. First off - the staff is excellent - this may be a four star hotel - but the staff is five star! David at the front desk and Alex, our valet and bellman were both excellent ambassadors of the hotel and were the perfect duo to set the tone for our stay! Our initial room was in building 7B and we later learned was in the older part of the hotel (which has not been renovated) - the older part of the hotel I would rate at 3 star - but the rooms were still nice - just older! We switched rooms because my sister found a spider on her bed and was afraid there would be a spider family in the room. We were upgraded to the Oasis portion of the hotel - which is the newer renovated part. BIG difference. The rooms are much nicer. Actually really glad there was a spider now because changing rooms made all the difference! Tower pool gets very crowded with children and families. Get there early to claim a chair! Also there is a height requirement for the slide so if you have little ones - just be aware of that. I ordered lunch twice at the tower pool and it was very good both times. Ambiance outside at the Wigwam Bar was very nice - live music - string lights - but the food just did not measure up. Dessert was very good though - so if you wanted to just have a chill night at a fire pit table and listen to music then you’re in business. I would not recommend the restaurant at the bar. We tried it again at breakfast and it was very bad. I would rate the food at a 1 star sadly. This is not the same as Litchfields restaurant which I am told is very nice - more upscale and better food. we never ended up trying that restaurant. The Oasis Pool is very nice - it is adult only and very peaceful - much different feel than Tower pool. The fitness center was amazing. They have every piece of equipment everything you could think of! The decor and feel of the property is just lovely. I will be coming back here. It reminds me of La Costa resort in Carlsbad California. Very similar feel. Next time we will get a golf and tennis package....
