Update (2024): Fall of 2023 I cancelled my membership. The gym just couldn't seem to keep good trainers more than a few months. I understand people move on, etc. but starting over with a trainer every few months is really counterproductive. Also, the Level 10 class didn't recover from Robin leaving. The trainers were merely babysitting the class.
The new "entrance" system put in place to prevent non-members from coming in makes the place feel like a prison.
The atmosphere of the gym has definitely changed to very pro-body-builder. We middle aged, older and out-of-shape folks stand out like sore thumbs.
It was time for me to move on. Unfortunately, I've not found anything I can afford and so my workouts have pretty much ended.
Second update (2022): The only female evening trainer was promoted to assistant manager, so she no longer trains after 3:00 pm. Female clients who can only come in the evening will have to be comfortable with a male trainer.
The 5:30 pm Level 10 class has been lead by a new, relatively inexperienced trainer, who gives 10 seconds between sets and 10-20 seconds between stations. He says words of encouragement the entire time, but rarely corrects poor form or incorrect technique.
Class size has fallen dramatically. 5:30 pm is only 4-5 people. 6:30 is 1-4 people. And I don't foresee it getting better unless they bring in better trainers who have a clue how to work with middle aged, out of shape, or injured people.
Yet, I have heard the gym is looking to hire another evening trainer, and so I am giving them another month or two. As discouraging as the changes are, 10 Fitness still remains the best deal around.... sadly, it has begun to feel like a "bargain."
Update (2021): still a great place for inexpensive workout, but some of the recent changes are disappointing. Level 10 class space has been moved to a smaller room, making social distancing difficult. Even when covid precautions are no longer needed, the new area feels like an after thought, with not enough room for a full class. Robin no longer works at the gym; replacement trainers leading the class are mixed quality. Some are excellent and lead a high paced yet encouraging class with professional demonstrations; others are less knowledgeable about the exercises and have demonstrated them incorrectly. I've lost confidence in a safe & effective workout, yet I keep coming, hoping the trainer will improve or be replaced.
(2020) Great gym for all kinds of people: from serious body builders to plump middle aged folks to young twenty-somethings. The current staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Gym is fairly clean and I've felt safe during pandemic with masks and extra disinfecting precautions. Andy always has a smile (well, at least a nod with a mask) and remembers your name. Robin is a great personal trainer who works with where you are and what your goals are; she's a life coach meets drill sergeant. And for the price, well worth the opportunity to forget the cares of the world and focus on taking care...
Read moreI was supposed to do a trial membership with friends . However, I started a new job and didn’t get to attend. Long story short, I forgot to cancel the trial membership and they have billed me for months, even taking annual fee, as well as, bi -weekly fees. I didn’t even realize this until my debit card had to be canceled and they sent me a email requesting payment update. I called and stated that I was only meaning to do a trial membership and unfortunately, I didn’t get to visit or attend the gym. I made them aware that I have never even stepped foot on the premises. I asked them could they cancel the membership. I was told no. That there is now late fees and an additional 89 dollars that would have to be paid. I told them since I have never been to the facility why can’t the annual fee and bi weekly fees suffice for payment. The call didn’t end on a good note. I will try and contact the attorney generals office and Better business bureau to see what they can assist me with. If I ask you to cancel the membership it should cancelled period. I was told they would keep billing me and thats their policy.
Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to respond and outline your policies. I do understand the terms you've described, but I still feel deeply disappointed by how my situation has been handled.
While I understand the importance of contracts and consistency, I believe that a little more compassion and flexibility—especially when someone has a genuine concern—could go a long way in building long-term trust and loyalty. Policies are important, but people are what make or break a business.
I’ve decided I won’t be making any additional payments. I truly believe I’ve already paid more than what’s reasonable given my experience.
If 10 Fitness were to show more understanding in situations like mine, I think you’d not only retain more members, but also attract new ones through a reputation for fairness...
Read moreUPDATE: Many positive renovations took place, including eliminate the flooding issues. I’ve been going there for almost three years now, and overall I do like the place. They got plenty of machines and free weights to use, which is great. I don’t know much about the quality of the classes and extra perks but it’s got everything you need to put in a workout, especially if your focus is weight training.
There are a few concerns and complains that I’d like to address though.
First, the main room with free weights is CONSTANTLY flooded. I mean, anytime it rains somewhat heavily, it’s all over again. I feel like setting out buckets and fans can work a couple of times, but if you have to address the issue every time it rains, maybe the roof should be fixed instead.
I have noticed that there are some regular people who don’t think that respecting the rules, i.e. other people, is necessary. To the point that some folks were blasting music on their own speaker they brought in, or the grunting and the yelling amongst certain groups, would get really loud. Mind you, the gym attendant on duty was present, walked by a few times and didn’t seem to mind. I have no problem with occasional grunts. We are all human, but don’t put it in big letters on the walls and don’t pretend to instill those common sense values without your own employees politely enforcing them.
Lastly, the Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours suck. Especially SAT & SUN... It’s great to have 24 hour access during the week, and 9PM Friday is fine, but closing at 5 on the weekend is quite ridiculous, in my opinion. Many prefer working out later at night and this limitation is a...
