This was my first experience with American Hartford Gold and with buying precious metals. Gerard Garoian worked with me over the course of two days, providing me with detailed answers to all my questions and a great deal more information about precious metals. He is extremely knowledgeable and articulate. He was very patient and thorough and a genuine pleasure to work with. I will be recommending Gerard to friends and relatives who may be interested in acquiring precious metals. I look forward to receiving my order and am already planning my next purchase from AHG, with Gerard assisting me again.
UPDATE: It's now New Year's Eve, and I have yet to receive my order from American Hartford Gold. For two months, AHG has had my money, I have nothing to show for it, and I keep getting the runaround from this company. Gerard, my first contact (who seemed very knowledgeable and helpful at the outset) has gone MIA. He had given me his "personal" phone number, but, when I call it, the mailbox is full and can't accept more messages. I contacted AHG's Client Services department, but never got a call back from them. It's fallen upon Gerard's assistant to handle my order and all the problems I've had with this company. FedEx is not off the hook, either, as their delivery manager option is useless. The latest is that the order was shipped overnight from the warehouse in Torrance, California, and would arrive at my home today. I checked FedEx tracking throughout the day, finally saw that my order had been delivered--to Wilmington, NC! I have the name of the recipient. Wilmington's not a large town and it's very easy to identify the recipient. So, AHG has also violated a client's privacy. AHG says FedEx "messed up" a whole group of orders, with tracking numbers sent to the wrong clients. It turns out my order was never even shipped. I've had it with this company. I've never had such a bad customer experience, and it's not over yet. Now, I'm promised a delivery on Friday. We'll see ..... Review: I invested $50,000 in precious metals through American Hartford Gold (AHG) based on assurances from their sales team that this was a sound long-term retirement investment. What I received instead was a devastating 36% immediate loss — over $18,000 vanished in undisclosed markups and commissions.
No one at AHG ever clearly explained their pricing structure or the full costs involved. I never received a detailed invoice or accounting, even after repeated requests. My holdings were later valued by the custodian (Equity Trust) at just over $31,000, and when I liquidated them, it confirmed the loss.
I filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (Complaint ID: 23519406). AHG’s response avoided the core issue: how can any investor knowingly agree to lose over one-third of their capital on day one?
To make matters worse, their “10-day cancellation policy” is meaningless. They didn’t deliver the final product listing or shipping details until after that window had already expired, making it impossible to reconsider the transaction in time.
Since then, I’ve found numerous similar reviews from others who experienced the same thing: hidden fees, poor transparency, and misleading reassurances. AHG may present itself as a patriotic, trustworthy company — but my experience was anything but.
If you’re considering doing business with AHG, please do your due diligence. Compare prices against trusted online dealers, demand a full accounting in writing, and consult an independent advisor before investing.
I’ve since moved my holdings to a transparent, reputable financial institution. I will never do business with AHG again.
