I've shopped it jet rag for years, there's a lot of selection, but you need to be pretty discerning. There's definitely a fair share of forever 21 and even Walmart brand clothes that you need to fish through for some really great finds. But there's an incredible amount of stock. You will pretty much always find something that you like, and the prices are pretty good when compared to Melrose and the surrounding area. This is great for costume or filmmaking.
As for the controversy, I'm white and have always had been asked to leave my bag at the front. I think that is super archaic, to worry so much about shoplifting, I don't know how bad are your margins really? You're buying bags and bags of dollar clothes, chill out with the shoplifter policing in my opinion. It's uninviting.
With all that said, there is a secret door. If you look at the shelves immediately to the left of the fitting rooms, there is a hinge on top of it. You can also see where on the floor it slides in and out. There is an old school gate latch holding it closed. It cannot be opened from the outside. It is right next to the fitting rooms. I don't know what's up with that personally, but when I asked the cashier if that was a secret door, in kind of a playful way because I think it's cool to have a secret door, she said and I quote "It is not a secret door, and it has never opened since the owner bought the building" So wait it's not a door, but it's never opened? What does that mean? I saw a light on the other side. And I'm talking this MF is right there by the fitting rooms. Something isn't right. I'm just saying if there were cameras looking at people in the fitting rooms or something, that's where they would be. And there's a secret door. Judge as you will, but here's a picture of the secret door. Go for yourself and look for the secret door. I've attached a photo of the...
Read moreThis store is truly a great place to find vintage clothing. Customer service? Not sure they heard of it. Affordable? I don't know about all that. I bought a beautiful 50 dollar beaded dress that looked to be in perfect condition. I went out that night for an hour or 2 in the dress, got some great compliments, and had an amazing night. I was walking around at one point and looked at the dress to find that the beading was completely falling off. Of course I looked at the receipt to find it says "no returns or exchanges", I was disappointed, but I thought I might as well call. After 3 days of jumping through hoops to finally talk to the manager, because the people on the phone will tell you to call at a specific time on a specific day and then 100% lie to you and tell you to call another day (again). The manager said there was nothing that could be done. I understand the store has its own policies, but to purchase a garment at such an expensive price thinking that meant a good quality, only to have it fall apart and become worthles, that sucks. Then to have them not even consider exchanging it for a portion of the price I paid! But god knows they are the biggest vintage clothing supplier in L.A. so they can literally treat people however they want, and trust me they do (if you've gone in, you've definitely experienced they're version of a "welcoming environment"). So I guess if there's a take away from this, just make sure of your purchases and if you think they check their own products for quality, you'd be wrong. Hope this helps...
Read moreEDIT - In response to owners. Who is setting up the tents? Who is allowing these people to come an elbow and push other customers around? Who is placing the clothes in their parking lot? You. So yes, you are accountable. Jeez. Your set up is attracting this type of selfish, frenzied behavior. There is no order and I would highly NOT recommend people go there on Sundays with teenage kids if you want to have any space to yourself. The inside of the store is sometimes pleasant so you get 1 star.
Previous: I have Thrifted at this store before and the one dollar Sundays were so exciting to pick through things, especially with young girls but seeing how savage these people are acting is wild. Not a chill thrifting experience and the aggressive energy takes away from the fun of picking through clothes. There needs to be some type of order if this is going to continue to be one of LA’s Premier thrift experiences because at this point, it’s downright scary to go there on Sundays with all the savage people grabbing arms full of clothes and bumping into you without any consideration in a completely selfish manner. As soon as the store opens and a pile of clothes on the curb are accessible you have selfish aggressive people rushing in and grabbing piles of clothes by the armful, not allowing for any type of fun...
