In May 2024, I attended a Kintsugi workshop with Rebecca in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The class took place in an open, light-filled creative work space. It was a great experience!
We began by selecting a ceramic plate or bowl, then breaking it with a towel and hammer, which was quite cathartic. Rebecca then guided us through each step of the Kintsugi process: mixing glues and gold powder, cleaning the surfaces, and finally, the fun process of "Kintsugi" the ceramics pieces. The process was both fun and meditative, and I particularly enjoyed brushing additional gold dust onto the lines, watching the gold color come to life.
Rebecca was an energetic and knowledgeable instructor, explaining and demonstrating each step in detail. She provided attention and support to each participant, ensuring everyone felt confident and engaged.
The workshop was not only educational but also a social and enriching experience. We all left with a beautiful Kintsugi piece (see a picture of mine), feeling proud of our creations. I highly recommend Rebecca's workshops. She is an excellent teacher and a joy to spend time...
Read moreMy partner and I recently took a Kintsugi class with Rebecca at the Magic Brush Room in DTLA, and it was a really enjoyable experience. Rebecca has a sarcastic sense of humor, a confident teaching style, and a knack for making the class both engaging and informative.
She shared practical tips and insights that only come from experience, which made the process feel approachable and manageable for beginners. The class focused on decorative Kintsugi, and the relaxed atmosphere made it easy to follow along and ask questions.
The Magic Brush Room was a nice venue—comfortable and well-suited for this type of activity.
I’d recommend this class to anyone interested in learning the basics of Kintsugi in a supportive and casual setting.
It's LA, so dont forget to leave early, so that you arrive on time. Once the class begins, you dont get to walk in late with a fresh cup...
Read moreHad an excellent time at the Kintsugi Workshop. Rebecca gave us a short history lesson of the technique as we started then walked us through breaking our ceramics (which she had a selection of options). We then got instruction of the best practices and how to achieve the look we wanted. She then let us free and walked around and made sure we were all making progress and able to keep steady pace. Everyone ended up with a finished piece and it was fun to see what everyone made.
Rebecca herself is very sweet and a great teacher. She is giving Ms. Frizzle energy, funny and entertaining. Which was more than enough to keep my ADHD brain on track for the full 2 hours. It flew by.
10/10, no notes,...
