We decided on this place in Chinatown for Chinese New year. We got there at 7pm and it was around a 30 minute wait before we got seated which wasn't bad considering it was Chinese New year. They have some seats outside while you wait.
We decided to order the orange chicken, Mongolian beef, and shrimp chow fun. For the noodles, there's the option of choosing lo mein and chow fun which had variations for each of them. For chow fun, we chose the one with gravy over the noodles. Also, if you check in yelp, you get free eggrolls. The food came in pretty big portions and we had leftovers enough for several meals. However, we didn't particularly enjoy the food. Everything was pretty greasy and didn't taste very good. Out of everything we ordered, the Mongolian beef was probably the best. The orange chicken didn't have much chicken in them and mostly consist of the orange breaded part. They were oddly shaped and it felt like we were eating dough. The noodles also weren't very good and not all part of the noodles had gravy on them. It tasted a bit bland and the noodles stuck together in the middle.
The service also was a bit slow. It was Chinese New year so we understand they were busy. However we waited for a while getting and paying the check. They took the cards of 3 tables including ours at the same time, however, we waited at least 10 minute more than the other tables getting our cards back. We're usually pretty patient but it was taking so long we asked them if they were almost done with our cards and they just said they're still working on it. Overall, we weren't impressed with the food or service here and will try the other restaurants when we're back...
Read moreI have been a bit skeptical on trying out Full Moon House just because it was formerly Golden City Restaurant/Cafe. But with my younger brother persuading my mom and I to go; we made the trip for a late night eat. Surprisingly they open late night which worked well for us since we had a tight and busy schedule one day. One thing to know is if you are getting a late night bite here at full moon house, the parking structure (bamboo plaza) is closed at 11pm. Make sure to either leave before or park elsewhere. One thing that will knock your socks off when entering is the waiters. They have digital name tags. It sort of futuristic. I was actually wondering, are these dudes androids?? Of course not. Full moon house has 3 menus. One is for lunch, dinner and the other is for late-night snack. Now, in Chinatown there are rarely restaurants that open very late and Full Moon House is definitely going to be the cornerstone for that crowd. We ordered what we usually order which is the chinese version of calamari, sweet and sour fish, honey walnut shrimp, chinese sausage in hot clay pot rice, and beef stew. All of these dishes were cooked perfect. The hot clay pot rice was phenomenal as that is the dish that we crave for. There are not many restaurants anymore that cater that sort of home cooked dish. And to top it off, when we were done with the hot clay pot rice, the waiter had suggested to make a soup to enjoy the rice crusts. A+!!!! Thanks to both our waiters...
Read moreCame here to fill our bellies before we headed back to SF. THIS is a proper Chinese Restaurant! A type that i have been looking for that bring nostalgic happy memories from the 90's, when i was a kid. Great food, speedy service, and legit smiles everywhere. There was a table of 12 right behind us celebrating (likely) an engagement and they werent really a bother, i just couldnt hear grandma, lol. The Staff were attentive, but a bit tunnel visioned, and free fillers (like water). We arrived as the dinner rush began (about 6:30) so it was easy to get a table, then it got crowded as it progressed.
Decor isn't anything unique and could use work, but that wasn't the expected nor the focus, nor do i feel any of it need changing.
We didnt get much but this will be our go to everytime when we in LA from now on. Prices are just as pricey as any common restaurant but the flavors here are undeniably good!
The Westlake Beef soup was proper, with soft cuts of beef and somehow the freshest cilantro. Its what the fam needed to have warm soup belly for the night drive back up (i had a redbull just incase). We had house combo chow mein, Pork & Shrimp Shui Mai, and Shrimp Har Gow.
I will definitely bring a bigger group to eat here, hungry. but since its not a huge joint, i would call 1st to see if reserving tables is an option.
Admittedly the short coming i brough up are just being "nit-picky." I have no problem giving this Restaurant a whole 5 stars...
