I found this shop online when I saw a post of theirs about a bad review made by someone whose idea of inclusiveness is cisgender, straight, white, and christian (and who probably don't use any seasonings other than salt and pepper, but probably not even enough of that, to be honest). I am nothing if not petty and seeing that comment made me want to buy something from this shop just because. A little online banter later where they suggested a mystery box and I asked if that would reveal they are secretly magic and knew me in a past life, which they swore the would prove, and I ordered the $75 mystery box.
It is confirmed... They're magic. We were definitely BFFs in a past life. And I am also deeply impressed with their ability to mind read and pick books on topics I have been quietly contemplating but that I also would not even know where to start to find these topics. Opening the box had me laughing at how insanely perfect these titles are for me but also crying because one of them I think will be very healing for me.
5 stars is not enough. I will be back at Christmas. I wish I was local so I could get to know this Bettie and her...
Read moreOur second visit to Bettie's Pages and, wow, we are still completely blown away! It was worth the 2 hour 20 minute drive to get there. Once you step inside, you are welcomed by bright, beautiful book displays, tees, stickers, socks, smiles, and all the things that make everyone feel welcome and loved. The selections are diverse and inclusive. Throughout the different genres, you'll find some familiar favorites as well as many that highlight minority groups that you might not find in other places. The children's section is packed with books to represent everyone. The displays were phenomenal, and I could have gotten lost in those for far longer. Whether you're looking for a book for yourself or a gift, or even some awesome merchandise to brighten a day, it's worth the stop. Bonus is the happy smile eager to greet you and help with any questions you may have. We'll happily be making...
Read moreBettie’s Pages is a refreshing and welcoming bookstore in Lowell. Their new location is beautiful and easy to get in and out of. Every time we’ve come in, we’ve been met with friendly booksellers and warm greetings. We love to visit, immediately find and pet the cats, then browse the diverse selection of books and other merchandise (I personally love the sticker collection). They even have an area of toys to help occupy my kids while I shop for something new to read. The few times I haven’t been able to find what I was looking for, they helped me order it into the store to pickup within a week. Their reading challenges and recommendations have prompted me to read interesting books I wouldn’t have looked at otherwise. We recently attended a story-time and my child had a great time! I love supporting small bookstores and am so lucky to have such a great, inclusive space...
