Extra Space Storage — Local services in Lower Chichester Township

This company may have good reviews here, but online is RIFE with complaints of their notorious bait and switch tactics. Everything I have found except this google review page is negative. Including a class action law suit for the price increases.

98% of these reviews absolutely have to be fake, especially when really looking at the wording of them.. everyone just happens to know the associates names? I have never seen a living human that works here any time I have gone. It seems like drowning out the bad reviews with a bunch of fake positive ones. This company hasn’t been here long (I live down the road) and over 600 reviews?? Literally almost no other business around here that’s been around longer has this many reviews, let alone so many positive ones.

Anyway..

My price for my unit, as of 10/20 will increase and be over THREE TIMES what it was when I originally signed on less than a year ago (I think I’ve had a unit here for nine months?). Needless to say, I’m ready to move on. At this point it would be cheaper to just find a bigger apartment. I’m only bummed I didn’t find all the consumer reviews before hand since now I will have to take off a day of work to move my things.

They told me the price could increase because of the market. Okay, that’s fine, that’s how it goes. But this is honestly, simply predatory.

There is absolutely no way this is to keep up with current rates or inflation. Even my apartment in the last few years hasn’t increased like this, not even close. It’s simply a business taking advantage of people and the inconvenience of moving. Which is really sad when you consider the elderly, disadvantaged, or handicapped people that have probably fallen for this company’s bait and switch tactic and will ultimately have a much harder time...

6/1/24: Had an excellent experience and exceptional customer service from Jay at the Calymont, DE location. Jay went above and beyond in helping me find the right storage space for my needs.

3/1/2025: I have been with Extra Space for about 9 months. At first their service was excellent, until I received a drastic rate increase. At the time, Mr. Jay was very helpful in brining my rate down (Unfortunately he is no longer there). Come again now after 3-4 months I receive another more than drastic rate increase (almost double). Whoever they have new at the Claymont, DE location obviously did not get any customer service training. After I inquired about the rate increase, he did not voice any concern for a customer who been there for almost a year and try to help in all possible ways, and just offered to bring it down by $40 and said "that's all I can and it is what it is". I even asked for a manager to take a look at this increase and he said "There's no manager here and he will not be able to do anything". I was just speechless. I recommend anyone to THINK TWICE before going to Extra Space Storage especially the Claymont DE location and shop around very carefully before you commit to their unreasonable rate increases...

Professionalism coupled with accuracy of transactions and interactions and friendliness of staff (from primary on-site manager Vincent Vandenbraak "down" to Dan and -- very favorably dealt with today, February 5, 2024, during successful payment for this upcoming monthly period -- Aaliyah Clay) have been second to none and/or, heretofore, apparently none at all especially since my having opened the account on these premises in November 2021 for December 2021. Extreme cleanliness of the premises has further contributed to an utterly delightful and extremely satisfying set of experiences here, as had staff's clemency ... during unexpected and hard- to- avoid delays in remittances that I had intended to very promptly make ... and even make early. Accordingly, for the above details and too many more to list here, Extra Space... is strongly recommended for any or all in need of a site to store excess and nominally excess personal and probably even privately commercial or quasi-...
