Central Virginia Community College — Local services in Lynchburg

Up until this point it has been a few small hurdles that have been resolved fairly quickly and would leave my rating at a 4 star rating. However, this previous semester has been nothing but a nightmare when it comes to the bookstore and financial aid.

The bookstore website offers laptop computers. So I attempted to order one using my financial aid. The order was cancelled and I had to visit the bookstore, which turned into having to get some kind of voucher to use my own financial aid for a computer. After some back and forth about not supposed to have been awarded a voucher in the first place, they accommodated the voucher to get me my laptop.

After getting all that squared away, I checked back in to make sure my financial aid had covered my books, the laptop, and my classes. To which I was told it did.

Or as of today, it was supposed to be any way. I went to schedule my classes and was met with a wonderful message online that my account is on a hold due to bookstore charges that I already have a receipt from in August (Almost 2000 dollars with the laptop). Almost 4 months later and something that was taken care of is now suddenly still a problem.

As of right now it's being looked into by a financial aid office worker that has been very helpful through all of this but my review will still stand until this is rectified. Also I will no longer be using the bookstore because the risk of getting anything through financial aid there just isnt worth it.

I am a current student, most professors are great. But without fail every semester I have issues with financial aid. They took my pell grant back out of my account the last week of school even though I’m taking enough credits and my classes qualify. I now owe over $700 out of pocket that I don’t have. They took my sub/unsub loans away ( again, I qualified for these) and I had to call 9+times and send multiple emails to get them restored. It’s the last week of the semester and they still haven’t been disbursed to my account. I’m an all A student. I’m pretty sure I spend more time dealing with Financial aid mishaps than I do on schoolwork. Sad. I have also enrolled in a class in a previous semester that was canceled by the school. Highly inconvenient. UPDATE: The Director of Financial Aid was able to look at my account and fix both my Pell Grant and student loans! I just have to wait for the next dispersment period. I guess we’ll see if it happens. Changed score from 1 star to 2 stars. UPDATE: They reissued my pell grant, but the semester had ended and they still have not issued my...

Dear everyone, If this is where you chose to begin your college education, you will never regret it. CVCC has been the most influential experience of my life (I am about to graduate). The counselors, staff, professors, and tutors truly want you to succeed, and are very student-focused. If you need assistance, you will find it. There are countless resources available to students, and not just educational ones. The professors go above and beyond to make sure every student is prepared, have the tools they need when they graduate, and that they have someone who they can trust. This school is 100% all about the students and helping them achieve their goals. I promise, you will never regret...
