Planet Fitness — Local services in Mableton

In September of 2024 I ALMOST JOINED... almost.

I went through the tour and then all the time consuming i-pad crap to sign up & finally got to the payment part at the end. After putting in my credit card info I thought I was done. But no! They wanted my checking account and routing numbers too!?

Heck no planet fitness! You're not getting direct access to my checking account!

When I asked the guy at the counter about it he uncaringly said "there's no other way to join". So I left.

Later, I read on the internet about this new practice and found out that planet fitness does this because they make it so hard to quit planet fitness. In retaliation and as a way to quit the gym, people cancelled their credit cards to make the payments stop. Planet fitness realized if they have your checking account number, you can't easily cancel that so they can keep drawing money out.

Really shady practice.

Sadly, there's no good gyms in the lithia springs, austell, mableton, douglasville area. They're all old, run-down and dirty. Someone please open up a nice gym in lithia springs.

According to the worker at the counter, ALL (not most) of your memberships require a checking account.

Planet Fitness never used to DEMAND a checking account to take the monthly fees from. As a matter of fact NO OTHER GYM in our area does this. NONE. I've toured them all. A credit card has always sufficed. How many members don't even have a checking account?! You are losing business because of this invasive, overreaching requirement to join your gym.

With all the data breaches by hackers these days, the last info I am putting out there to potentially be stolen is my checking account and routing number so someone can steal all the cash out of my account.

And no, it is not the same thing as planet fitness accepting my check as a form of payment. You're demanding unfettered access to my checking account to withdraw money as you deem necessary. When I pay you with a check, it's just the check you have access to, not my...

I am an infrequent visitor to this location in Mableton and haven't been there in some time. This day was just like any other. I went into the gym had a pretty good workout and was departing the gym. That's when I encountered Joe the manager of this location. Joe runs up to me yelling, but I can't here him because I have ear pods in with the music on full blast. I take one out and Joe is speaking to me in this disrespectful agressive manner. This encounter started because of the facilities mask policy. I didn't know anything about the policy, I checked in without a mask and the young lady at the desk didnt say anything to me. I see people all over the gym without a mask. Joe says to me you need to wear a mask when you come this area. He never introduced himself, never greeted me, Joe is the manager. When I asked Joe why are you speaking to me like this? He states because I was yelling at you from across the gym. Earpod in hand, I replied I had my pods in like many other people in a gym. Joe replied I see that now, but continued to talk about the mask in this agressive disrespectful tone. I'm standing there like what is wrong with this guy. I'm a customer, and he his speaking to as if he wants a fight. I walk off Joe states again loudly make sure you wear a mask when you come into this area. I tell Joe I won't be back. Joe replied good, don't come back ever. Joe is a manager, this encounter should have been handled with respect PERIOD. I don't know how Joe became a manager behaving like this but I'm going to talk to his supervisor because this is unacceptable....
