I've done The 50's Diner and the Escape From Hades rooms here. The Diner was my first ever room and the Hades room was my seventh. I'd say this is an above average escape place overall.
The people are friendly and the hints they give when needed are good and personalized for the specific place you're stuck at. The Diner was pretty well themed and filled with mostly believable and relevant scenery. We had six people for this room, all of whom were first timers except for one person who had done around 25 rooms. We got out in about 45 minutes. This room is not linear and probably requires a group of at least three people to solve because of all of things that need done and puzzles that need solved. There is some writing involved in solving some puzzles, but not too much and two or three of the puzzles were impressively implemented and tied in very well with the theme. I'd give the room a 8/10.
The Hades room was not quite as good. It can be escaped with two people (which is what my group consisted of). Very linear. It starts off strong and starts to fall apart the more you go. The theming is alright, but was more of a "Greek Mythology Museum" than anything else. The puzzles were linear in progression but well rounded and fairly varied. Where the room was lacking is in puzzle design. You find a long passage you are told you must read that takes up an entire peice of paper, but only need two sentences. To me, this felt like an obtuse way to deliver information that's required to continue at a certain point in the room. There was one cleverly implemented environmental puzzle that makes up for its shortcomings ever-so-slightly. We (a group of two) escaped this room in about 45 minutes, but probably could've done it in about 32 minutes had we not gotten stuck on a confusing clue. I'd give the room a 6/10.
I have not yet done The Castle room, but my escape room partner has and he said it's the best of the three. If you can only do one, I'd say either do The 50s Diner or The Castle and skip the Hades room unless you want to finish all the rooms or like the...
Read moreI'll try not to type too much, but Mary & Dmitri treated my proposal party and myself with a high caliber of quality, care and respect from our first email to our first face-to-face encounter. I emailed The Escape Room Lancaster, after finding out the escape room was featured on my (then) girlfriend's favorite tv show; The Bachelor. With less than a 24hr turnaround time Mary called me and we began to get my proposal plans in motion. Each day, I'd think of something new and creative to add to the plan and Mary gave me her personal phone number to bother her at any time of the day, she even dedicated her off hours to accommodate my plans/adjustments. I did very little work on my end, supplied images with excerpts explaining them, and the final product that Mary & Dmitri supplied me with was merely unforgettable! On 02Aug2015 10:00am, 10-15 of my fiance and my friends and family set up shop in the Escape Room Lancaster. Around 11:45, my fiance and her immediate family arrived and began the game. As my fiance uncovered the clues/images (Mary put together) we would send in the person in that image. The Escape Room Lancaster has an ingenious concept, getting people back to true interactions while creating critical team bonding skills (great for business venues looking for new innovative means of team bonding!!). I'd recommend the Escape Room Lancaster to any friend/family/colleague and plan on returning..... I'd like to see them incorporate holiday themed...
Read moreI played the Imposter room a few months ago and decided to come back and play the 80s room. I've played over 50 rooms at this point. I'm not sure about the other rooms at this location but I was disappointed with quality of set and puzzles. I played the Imposter one because I thought it would be funny and returned to play the 80s with slightly higher hopes for a better room. The set design for both rooms consisted of posters and decals on the walls. The use of overhead lighting for the better part of the room as well as no soundtrack took away from the immersion of it all as well. It seems like there is little thought that goes into the design of the room itself, it really is just a room. There is no way to tell how much time you have besides the gamemaster warning you here and there. The puzzles were linear and consisted of mostly physical locks and the answers didn't lead to a satisfactory conclusion. It was all about finding codes instead of solving and connecting the puzzle.
Overall, I have no complaints with the customer service of Escape Room Lancaster. They were always so welcoming and helpful if I had any questions and the gamemasters ran the room well. Their rooms are just...
