I was browsing the website when I noticed Get-It-Now was advertising limited stock on a 14" Alienware Laptop.
I filled out an online application and the next day got a call from a representative from the local Marinette branch of Get-It-Now.
They asked me what I was looking for and when I told them, they said they didn't have any and that they would call and see if any other stores had any.
About half an hour later I get a call back, telling me that none of the stores had any, they were out of stock and that Get-It-Now wouldn't be getting anymore because they were waiting on the "new model" to come out.
Then the representative tried to sell me a different laptop that "was basically the same thing, but cheaper".
I've actually built computers in the past, I was aware of the product they were trying to sell me and I can promise you the hardware on the two laptops weren't "the same", there was a specific reason I wanted the Alienware laptop and to be honest I didn't appreciate the fact the representative assumed I didn't know anything about computer hardware to know that "its the same thing" is a load of bull.
I worked in retail for three years before working where I do now and from my standpoint, this looks like a pretty big 'bait and switch' to me.
For starters, the Alienware laptop they were advertising was made in 2014, if the stores weren't actively carrying it, why even advertise it?
Second of all, Dell, who now owns the Alienware brand name, is constantly upgrading and selling newer models, there's no waiting for the 'newer model'.
Finally, as a franchise business, am I to believe Get-It-Now doesn't have some sort of central office and warehouse or distributor?
I've taken computer tech and web design courses in the past and I know that it's not that difficult to remove a product listing from a website, further, these days, most companies such as Get-It-Now generally has software that does all the heavy lifting for you - if NONE of these stores have this product, why is it still being advertised?
Trying to lodge a complaint with Get-It-Now was completely useless. Their webpage accepts online applications, but trying to user their customer feedback options results in a broken script. Trying to call their 1-800 number only re-directs you to their closest store where you live and their local Facebook page hasn't been updated in two years.
Ignoring the fact that most bait and switch tactics are (generally) considered illegal, I am fairly annoyed that the first attempt I ever made to use their services resulted in such a manner. Their lazy attitude at maintaining a proper website, their lack of customer service and bait and switch tactics has really...
Read moreBought a dishwasher from here last year and even fell behind on payments when I went into the Hospital for a while. They worked with me very nicely and other than the showing up at my house stuff I can honestly say they are quite professional. The service plan that's included with your purchase is unbelievable. I would/will only use them for any major appliance purchases for myself. The low payments and service plan are unbeatable. I can't imagine I'd be able to purchasing a dishwasher somewhere else and still getting someone out to service it over a year after purchase without having to pay for the repair. Incredible and the final amount I paid including the interest was still comparable to the original price from most other businesses...
Read moreI'm giving it 2 stars because the last couch my daughter bought was crap, broke within months, someone she knows moved in her old apartment and they told her the get it now workers were walking around looking in his windows, he went and had some words with them. The last thing I got is alright, but heaven forbid you're a minute late your payment, they are right there to call you 10x a day. Annoying!!!! If I haven't missed a payment in all these years a day or 2 late won't...
