I lived at Suite Liv’n for a total of three years. I would personally exercise caution when reading the recent reviews, as it appears Suite Liv’n recently ran a promotion offering gift cards in exchange for good reviews.
So, time for a real review—split between management, maintenance, and cleanliness.
Management Moving in initially was easy and fast. The management at the time seemed to have a handle on things. I know they have no problem getting people into apartments now, but that’s mainly due to the demand for affordable housing—not because of the company’s standards or the charm of its employees.
During my time at Suite Liv’n, I watched the property change ownership multiple times. Each transition brought new complications and problems for tenants. It took me months to get a garage—I only received one after repeatedly going to the office to ask.
During my first year, my expensive hunting clothing was stolen out of the washing machines. Despite cameras being everywhere, I was told that nothing could be done.
I saw countless different employees working in the office, so you never knew who you’d be dealing with. There seemed to be a massive turnover rate, which led to constant miscommunication between tenants and management. This created general confusion for almost all three years I lived there.
Maintenance It took me a year to receive a new air conditioner—so long that I ended up buying my own window unit and modifying a piece of insulation to make it fit.
I also had maintenance requests that took weeks to complete. In one instance, my wall was damaged due to a water leak. Maintenance at the time simply repositioned my A/C, sprayed some sealant on the wall, and called it good.
More often than not, I resorted to doing maintenance myself—fixing leaky pipes, fire alarms, etc.—because I knew it would get done faster that way.
Cleanliness Holy cow, this place was filthy. Despite my best efforts, I could never get rid of the cockroaches. I assume they came up through the pipes and drywall from other filthy tenants. Management didn’t seem to care how dirty your unit was as long as you paid rent.
My neighbors would leave their doors open to air out their smelly apartments, which often made the entire building smell terrible. Cigarette butts, garbage, dog poop, and beer bottles constantly littered the area. Management would clean it up but made no attempt to find out who was responsible.
Conclusion Do your research. Ask some locals what they think of the current management and maintenance. Suite Liv’n can be an affordable, friendly place—it just depends on who’s running the show.
No offense to the current Marshall management—I know you guys are trying your best.
Edit: They also sent me to collections without...
Read moreHorrible place to live. Every few months they would say there is new management and it would be better, but nothing ever changed. If I wanted something fixed I would call and tell them about it (they usually didn’t answer the phone) but if they did they would say they will send someone out right away. I would then have to call them once a week to remind them and they always had an excuse, so it would usually take 4-6 months to get something fixed. (The whole building didn’t have a washing machine for 7 months because they wouldn’t fix them). I would pay rent every month on the first day and then get an email a few days later saying my rent is late (this happened every month and when I would remind them EVERY MONTH they would just say to disregard it, but how hard would it be to fix?) Eventually the payment website was down so they told me they will reach out when it is back up and waive the late fees, so I would call them every week to see if they found anything out but they said they will just reach out when it’s fixed. All of the sudden one day I get a call at 3:00pm saying I will be evicted if I don’t have a payment in by the end of the day. When I finally moved out I asked when I would get my $500 deposit back that I paid when I moved in. They basically told me it was a different management company when I moved in so they can’t get the money back to me… I could fill a book full of complaints but I will save everyone some time. If I could score it less I would. I recommend living under a bridge...
Read moreSigned a lease with this place in May and was so excited to move in. Tah'jee made the lease signing process and move in process so easy. However other than that every other experience has been horrible. Our deck was in complete shambles and it took weeks for anyone to come fix it. It wasn't until I told someone that gaps in our deck were big enough for my dog to fall through that they did something about it (still took a couple days after that though). The halls are absolutely disgusting! I seriously don't think that they've been cleaned once since we moved in. Dead bugs line the hallway and stairs and there are smashed up moldy grapes in the hallway as well. The whole building constantly smells like smoke and/or other funky smells and there are so many bugs! Everyday we find something new that's wrong with our apartment. Washer and dryer were out for months and we had to fix our own AC because maintenance never got back to us about it even though we were in the hottest part of the summer. Upon moving in we were told that they were going to order and install blinds for us due to the fact that ours had been ripped out before we moved in. A few months later we received an email saying that if we wanted blinds we would have to pay for them through a different company. 10/10 would not recommend this place to anyone. So unbelievably excited to move out of this place! Five stars for Tah'jee but for the rest of the place I'd...
