Planet Fitness — Local services in Mary Esther

I came to Florida for the winter, and I had a very long and arduous surgery post six months. I called planet fitness to see if perhaps someone could help me with the machines, they're different from my ones in WI. I was told not a problem someone could help me get started. My cousin was going to come and join during their special. We arrived to find very young people talking and laughing with the manager. When I inquired about the special they have I was told it was over I explained I had called the day before and was told it was still going. I paid for my cousin's 26 dollars and was never told about the annual fee. The customer service was below par. We proceeded to the machines and waited for someone to help us no one ever came so we were on our own. There was nothing to wipe the machines down with paper towels were empty and so were the spray bottles. The entire time we were there we saw the staff standing around there manager laughing and having a good time. We had to use the restroom and most stalls didn't have toilet paper, and they were filthy we are in our sixty's so we had to use them anyway. Then the beginning of December I noticed they took 54 dollars from my account, this was after I had called 2 days prior to withdrawal of my membership. I called on a Saturday and asked the young man on the phone what was happening. He then told me I had to speak to the manager. That Monday we went in, the manager was standing with 2 young men snapping each other with towels and looked like thugs. The manager was rude, and extremely sarcastic telling me there's nothing she could do to help us and we asked who the district manager was and was told she couldn't devulge it. First let me start that earning a 5 star review for a budget gym is difficult. However, we feel 2 stars for this particular planet fitness is more than generous compared to other planet fitness gyms.

Highlights: Large parking lot, decent gym equipment and setup of the facility. The employee customer service was excellent even though they were very short staffed, often only one employee working. The employees did the best they could with obvious limited help and resources. The showers had warm water and that was a pleasant surprise.

Cons: Cleanliness is a huge negative. We used this gym 3-4 days as travelers. It was obvious the women’s locker room was not cleaned for over 24 hours as clothes were all over the locker room 2 days in a row. The toilet paper was stocked but the showers were dirty and the locker room was not cleaned from the day prior. COLD men’s and women’s locker rooms, all the air conditioning was directed in there and obvious electrical problem that was not being fixed. Paper towels in the gym facility were out in all containers. The staff put blue towels to be reused to clean equipment. The blue towels were drenched with cleaner and sweat and never rotated out with clean one’s. Let’s just spread Covid and flu germs around the gym? 🦠

Having just recovered last month from Covid, I was highly worried I would pick up a new bug in this gym due to low cleaning measures. The staff were limited as there was only one person to do everything and no supplies available. Who ever owns this location needs to significantly Improve the location. This planet fitness is giving a bad reputation...

DO NOT ABIDE BY AMERICANS WITH DISABLITIY ACT OF 1990 PLANET FITNESS WOULD NOT LET MY AUTISTIC SON WAIT FOR ME!! WARNING!!!! PLEASE READ , LET me say this I am a mature 54 year old woman, the staff may be friendly BUT don' t you dare let a family member or your guest sit up at the front lobby!! . They will claim they are loitering and must leave. Loitering in the state of FLORIDA means ( to prowl , linger, or be there for no purpose or reason). They pulled me off a tread mill when my son sat down to wait until I finished , he had been at the mall.The manager did not even introduce himself just informed me we had to leave because my son was loitering!!! I was horrified. And when I got upset they threaten to cancel my membership.,..we did work everything out. Today it happened again my son who is twenty years old and Autistic was told he could not wait for me he would be loitering and had to leave..he called me and told me to come to the desk. I do not like to be spoken to with that down your nose , righteous indignation ...and naturally I was in shock that this was happening again!!!! But do not show any emotion, they will threaten to cancel you.. My point is these people have no idea what loitering means, for I was his REASON AND PURPOSE to be there and then stand there and talk down to you and do not want to hear, And have NO IDEA ON HOW TO HANDLE OR APPROACH matters as such!! I did have few not so nice parting words but they are well deserved . They have children running that place!!! what is your thought on the loitering thing?? oh and when they serve PIZZA make sure your not...
