I recently brought in two of my rings to be resized and requested that the gold removed during the downsizing process be used to solder the two rings together. I felt this was a reasonable and practical request—after all, it was my gold, and repurposing it seemed both sustainable and cost-effective.
However, I was informed by the staff that they could not use the gold removed from my rings for the soldering process. Instead, they insisted on using their own gold, which would incur an additional charge. The pricing was as follows: $62 for each ring resizing, plus an additional $70 to solder the two rings together using their materials, totaling $194 before tax.
When I returned to pick up the finished rings, I must say, the result was visually stunning. The craftsmanship was flawless, and the rings looked beautiful—clearly the work of skilled hands.
That said, I was very disappointed when I inquired about the leftover gold from the resizing. I was told that the removed gold is not returned to the customer, as they “throw it in with the rest of the scrap.” When I asked if I could at least have the gold returned to me, the response was a flat refusal.
This is where my experience turned sour. Regardless of its weight or monetary value—whether it’s worth one cent or one hundred dollars—the removed gold still belongs to me. It’s a material I paid for, and I was not offered the option to reclaim it. What’s more frustrating is that I was charged extra for their gold to solder the rings, while they kept mine without credit or return.
Gold, even in small quantities, has real value. It can be refined, reused, and resold. There is no such thing as "worthless" scrap gold. If this is standard policy, I can only imagine how much customer gold is accumulating in their so-called scrap pile over time—gold that, ethically, should be returned or at least credited to the customer.
In the end, while the physical work done on my rings was excellent, the policy of retaining customers' gold without consent or compensation feels wrong and exploitative. It left a bad taste in what should have been a great experience. I hope this review encourages the business to reconsider its practices and be more transparent and fair to its customers...
Read moreAs soon as I walked into Lamons in Maryville I KNEW they were the ones I wanted to do business with. All of the employees were professional and very very respectful and sweet! We had MacKenzie help us throughout the process and she was an absolute angel!! I would recommend her to anybody!!! She was amazing to work with and you could tell she has a heart of gold! My experience was PERFECT because of her!
My fiancé and I had searched high and low for the perfect jewelers to set our beautiful chunky pear Diamond! We had went to Rick Terry’s and got told their flat rate just to do a custom started at $2,500. So the setting (18k YG), single cut diamonds, etc would cost us wayyyyy over our budget. Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS for a setting. Also when I asked to do an appraisal on my center stone (which I bought out of house) they originally told me they would for $200. Once I showed up in person and asked for an appraisal they told me it would be stupid considering they would do an appraisal over the whole ring at the end. This to me was a huge red flag. I, as a customer, wanted the appraisal for my own piece of mind and insurance purposes as a “just incase” so our Diamond would be protected.
However, Lamons was a breath of fresh air! They were ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL to work with and they worked with us to stay closer to our budget (setting cost being around $2500). Also when asked about the Diamond appraisal before setting the stone they agreed and it was less than $100. Not once did they tell me it would be stupid to do so, they were so understanding and I truly couldn’t talk them up enough. If you want a beautiful custom made by a team of jewelers who take pride in their customers I would look no further! 5 stars across the board!
I will be returning for any and all of my jewelry needs ❤️ Thank you so much for making my dream...
Read moreThis was a special birthday and needed a special gift. I had a piece of jewelry in mind and went to Bristol & Bragg's website. I did not see what I was looking for, but did see an opportunity to send a query. I received a response within hours and thus began the journey to acquire the perfect gift. Mackenzie was super! She corresponded with suggestions and ideas and then I went in to meet with her to discuss the final decision. As it turned out she pulled out the catalogs and we went over several pieces that met my criteria. The final decision was made, Mackenzie placed the order and assured me it would arrive on time. Well before I needed it she sent me an email to advise the piece had arrived. I picked it up and it was exquisite; just what I wanted. When you need a jewelry store you can trust, one with outstanding customer service, and attention to every detail you need look no further than Bristol & Bragg. Outstanding!
